PRACTICE #5: Tulsa Continues to Make Progress
TULSA, Okla. āā The Tulsa football team put in 135-minute practice session Monday morning on Harwell Field as the temperature reached 94-degrees with 104 heat index. The workout was No. 5 overall of preseason camp for the Hurricane.
Montgomery liked the progress from yesterdayās first day of pads to todayās second padded day.
āI thought our guys did a better job of understanding the way we needed to practice with pads on. We still have some things to learn,ā said Montgomery. āPads always bring the mentality to be more physical, so we have to understand how to practice and how to take care of each other, but still be physical. Itās about staying on your feet, being athletic and being able to move around with big people on the field.ā
āThe intensity level was good today. You can tell some of the things we reviewed from yesterdayās practice film transferred to the field well. We were a little more consistent today and thatās always a positive.ā
Tulsaās offensive line is looking to replace four starters from a year ago. Montgomery likes the progress being made up front for the Hurricane through the first five practices.
āWe still have a lot of interchangeable parts upfront as weāre moving some guys around, trying to find the right combination of five guys to make sure we get the best five guys on the field. But, I like the progress weāve made. Our offensive line is being physical and doing a pretty good job of targeting things and targeting things correctly. Now itās the technique part of it and understanding where we are and allowing our running backs a little bit of space to go make plays,ā said Montgomery.
Tulsa will be back on the field Tuesday morning. The Hurricane will take the day off from the practice field on Wednesday for Team Photo Day and Media Day.
