Who Remembers This...?

I was at that Depaul/Cincy game in Rosemont - Allstate Arena. What a game.

The Tulsa/Cincy game was not as close as the final score IMO.

I just remember liking our odds going into that game knowing Kenyon was out. We all knew Cinci was still dangerous even without him, but TU was also dangerous that year!

TU was the most under-rated team by seed in the tournament that year.

I was in Indianapolis when the game vs Cincy happened and we were at a wing place in their downtown area (not far from where Conseco is now) and the waiter came up to our table (all in our TU gear) and said "You guys have a great team. I have you going to the Final Four". People outside of Tulsa knew who we were that year.

I miss those days.

I had refundable tickets on Southwest to Indianapolis that year. Not sure where I went instead.

My favorite line from the article is modern analytics by Pomeroy show that Tulsa team was the 7th best team in the country entering the NCAA Tournament.

So, we really should’ve been a 2 seed. We proved we were the 7th best team by making the Elite 8 & almost the Final Four.

We were 2nd in the country behind Duke at avg. scoring margin at almost +20 per game. We blew a lot of teams out and not many teams got up a big margin on us. I still brag about having 5 losses by a combined 11 pts. UNC is the only game I remember us getting down “big” and that may have only been 10 pts.

If Shelton gives up the damn ball to a trailing Dante Swanson who would be one of the best three point shooters in the country the following year we probably make the final four despite all the bs of that game.

Of course we did lose to a four fingered man on a buzzer beater after the home team prayed to God for a victory on the PA.....so maybe not

Bro, I don't know if ORU had divine intervention that day, but they certainly had black and white stripes intervention. The charge call near the end of the game that gave ORU the ball back for that last shot was simply atrocious.

Shelton always succeeded even though most times he was under sized. But against Julius Peppers he couldn't get it done. Who knew JP would be one of the all-time greatest DE's in NFL history.

Dante was trying his hardest to win that game by himself.

GO TU!!!

Saw that play out live in Austin. It was right in front of our seats, & yes we were really hoping Shelton would’ve passed it! However, Shelton really did contribute to us being in the Elite Eight, with his play throughout that season.
