Imagine TU has wisely moved on from Gragg and hired YOU as the new AD. You can fire one coach. Who is it and why?
Pretty amazing there are zero votes for the guy who’s won 4 FBS games in 2 years, and one was against UCONN which doesn’t really even count!
Their both expensive to get rid of, but it would be way cheaper to get rid of someone with one year on his contract.Pretty amazing tnere are zero votes for the guy who’s won 4 FBS games in 2 years, and one was against UCONN which doesn’t really even count!
Yeah I’m Team Monty too. I’d do like someone else said, give Haith a 2 year extension with the option for us within 60 days after the end of each season to terminate without any further payments. Like an NFL non-guaranteed contract. It gives the optics of a deal for recruiting but let’s us cut the cord after next year with $0 cost. Hopefully he leverages it into another job in the meantime.Hey don’t close the polls till my vote is in...
Monty goes... I need butts in the seats to pay bills... more butts can fit in Skelly stadium and successful football builds momentum for community support... find a successful HS coach with a hotshot qb, an imaginative offense, good recruiting ties, a group of colleagues that want to prove themselves, and ambitions to match. By going this route you can pay the HC less, his assistants more and maybe cultivate a line of succession.
Haiths contract is allowed to expire. In The meantime. Find a juco coach that plays uptempo ball with some questionable qualifying players that can come in and energize the don rey with 90 point games filled with fast breaks and highlight reel plays... a coach that will put on a show and not be afraid to be part of the act.
In the end, we need money. And our current business plan is failing.
Luckily we're a private school or that wouldn't work. After the pay cuts got leaked, I wouldn't count on that staying under wraps.Yeah I’m Team Monty too. I’m sure it would get out. But I’m not sure how much the average recruit would really process what it means, or understand it at all. Teams choose not to terminate contracts all the time and keep the player around. It’s not like the contract ending.Luckily we're a private school or that wouldn't work. If it got out, I'm betting other coaches would explain it very clearly to recruits.I’m sure it would get out. Neither. Keep both one more year and invest the money that would have been spent on buying out Haith to finish the infrastructure improvements to both Skelly and DWRC that we cut corners on and did not finish that still pisses off ESPN production folks and others in our conference. When you wonder why the announcers aren’t nice and the camera angles sometimes suck and there’s only three or four camera angles on replay, this is the reason. We shaved off about $500 to a mil from the bonds we should have borrowed.
it’s little things like cutting corners like no midweek meal at all while they prep and game day buffet meals that underwhelm so they feel like they have to cater in their own food to keep their people happy and leave our offering burning in the steam tray.
Or them having to lay down cables for every gd game up to the press box and platforms like it’s still 1960, when at places like OSU and Houston they can just plug into existing cables that are better quality than what they can bring In. Saving them tons of time and money.
Spend the rest on enhancements for major donors including additional upgrades for game day experiences.
Throw rowing about $60,000 to get them enough practice equipment to get their walk ons out of the effing hallway annoying everyone, then find space to put them.
Buy 5 sweet leather racing car seats and a plexy glass roof with foot heaters and a fridge and install them on the bench at the soccer field so me and the new VP of Athletics and University Fan Ambassador LEC can give play by play to a major donor at each game along with Quincy and BLA.
Give the change in the form of symbolic raises or cash bonuses under $500 to the non-coaching football staff and nutrition folks.
The day after Haith puts his wife’s picture in a plastic bag and walks out, go buy a Big Chief tablet with 600 sheets. Start at the number 600 and write numbers in descending order on each sheet. Hang it in Monty’s office. Send him a memo that his job responsibilities now include tearing off a page each day counting down the days until he goes too. If he misses a day or refuses, it’s insubordination and will be considered grounds for firing for cause and general non-performance. Our lawyers are better than his lawyers.
Call a team meeting of the football staff with a priest present and ask them if any of them have anything in their past they want to confess to him or me before the University starts investigating what they all knew about the sexual assaults that Briles ignored or covered up going back to his high school days.
Kick my feet up on my desk and start looking at resumes of people, not from high school, that know fundamental football and basketball, with an established network of colleagues and the ability to assemble a competent staff who can both coach and create an atmosphere conducive to African-American student athletes. Somebody willing to spend a little from their millions to improve their TV delivery and recruit presentation, preferred. Make the successful candidate sign an affidavit that they won’t be exerting pressure on university staff to hire family members or give preferential treatment to sons and daughters of football staff. Require an independent third party evaluator agreed upon by both coach and university to determine whether sons and daughters of athletics department employees are qualified to play at Division 1 level before they may participate in any sport.
Spend the final $150 on a bottle of Dom to open in 600 days to celebrate all those Baylor people packing up and going to back to the high schools and holes they came from.
Hey, a guy can dream can’t he?I’ve drafted many, many cause definitions in employment contracts in my life and unless his lawyers are really bad, that ain’t going to cut it.
It would certainly be a good way to make sure we never hired another coach who had any other options. Why come here on what amounts to a year to year contract when you can literally go anywhere else and have s guaranteed contract?Hey, a guy can dream can’t he?
But just for the sake of splitting hairs, What’s he going to win if we lose? The cost of the contract we would have paid anyway plus fees? If it was a trial and appeal, there’s a lot of people that think that $100,000 in fees is worth the statement to every current and all future employees that you better perform or we are going after you in a way that will taint your reputation if you don’t do the right thing and step aside. No Oklahoma jury is going to award punitive damages with his win/loss record and his Briles connection even if you can get punies in a non-discrimination employment case. He’d have to prove someone would hire him to get lost income during the pendency of the suit. He’s got no place to go and a single flimsy reason to sue and no place to sue except downtown. Any reasonable juror is going to say “Wake me up when we vote for TU”. Immediately after it’s pointed out he’s been getting paid $1 million per FBS win lately.
There’s nothing wrong with attaching conditions of employment to people’s jobs and that if they fail to perform them, it is considered a solicitation to accept their resignation. In this case, assigning the employee to track the expiration of their own employment contract to ensure a smooth transition results for both the employee and the University. If he don’t like it. Lump it. Sue us? Good luck finding a jury of house maids, construction workers and retired cops and oil workers that will be sympathic to a white millionaire from Texas in his 40s with more money in his wife’s checking account than they will retire with and who is in the bottom 5 percent in job performance nationally. A lot of those people would do anything to keep getting paid that type of money. Literally anything. And they’ve all suffered through far greater humiliations just to make bills. I’ll take my chances with them.
And now some people reading this might finally be gaining an understanding of just how hard Gragg’s job really is ...It would certainly be a good way to make sure we never hired another coach who had any other options. The cause definitions are usually pretty clear. There’s no doubt we’d lose if his sins were of the garden variety kind.
Those same people you’re talking about vote for tax cuts for the rich and eliminating the estate tax. They see their dreams at the plaintiffs table. And you know good and well the Baylor stuff wouldn’t make it to the jury. His wife would testify how he works 100 hours a week and his assistants would testify that it’s the lack of resources at TU that’s the problem. We’d look uncommitted to sports and like dishonest D bags all at once.
It’s doubly hard, it’s a hard job for anyone and he seems not to have been blessed with the skills needed to succeed at it.And now some people reading this might finally be gaining an understanding of just how hard Gragg’s job really is ...
Nobody is coming here with any options before 2021 and we all know that to varying degrees depending on our level of sobriety and self awareness. It would certainly be a good way to make sure we never hired another coach who had any other options. This thread is the perfect encapsulation of the difference between litigators and corporate lawyersNobody is coming here with any options before 2021 and we all know that to varying degrees depending on our level of sobriety and self awareness.
The Baylor stuff would come in when offered as rebuttal to any offering on his background and stellar job performance by showing a pattern of petit misconduct. You draw a nexus by connecting their problems to TU, like letting the Baylor coach wear TU gear on our sideline at OU during the height of the rape investigations to scout and steal signals and Briles touring campus, etc.
Disagree on us looking like douchebags to the jury. We simply don’t lose at trial. And Oklahomans love winners. He ain’t Oklahoman. Or a winner.
