Valentin Catt looks like a good prospect but really don’t follow much H.S, looks like rivals moved him 100% projection to TU.

Thanks see ya Saturday.

I like the way the kid runs the floor. He's not afraid to handle coming down the court or pass the ball to cutting guards. Finishes with emphasis.... could be a real nice pick up. Hopefully he's got even more polish since this video.

Not an impressive offer list and he’s shorter than I would like for a center but he does look like he moves well. In his highlight video it looks like most of the other players are 6’ or less so I’m guessing small school ball. I wouldn’t expect much next year if he does come here. He would need to bulk up to handle the size in the American. I look for Josh to be an important piece on next year’s squad.

I’m not sure this is real. I do think we need a four year center.

Josh needs to improve quite a bit in the mental game to contribute much. I agree with the rest of your assessment though.

#39 Center in the nation and #14 prospect in TX....(from 247) I would take a team full of those recruits.

Rivals hasn’t been updated in a while. He’s 6-10 and has 7 offers. Even though he plays in a smaller classification he did have 18 blocks in a playoff game last year.

————————————————
Star player Valentin Catt was on a tear in the first two rounds of the playoffs. In the Bobcats' first game against Diboll, he had a triple-double that consisted of 12 points, 18 rebounds and 18 blocks. Catt followed that game with another big game against Van Vleck. He scored 18 points along with 12 blocks and seven rebounds.

The Bobcats have a tough matchup scheduled against Coldspring on Tuesday, which has two losses on the season. Coldspring is also ranked No. 10 by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.

Is he really committed?

Why isn't he playing this year?

Why isn't he playing this year?

It was an age limit, I believe. He couldn’t play in Texas so decided to go to a prep school and work on academics.

I think he’d be a great rim protector and help out with rebounding. I still think he’s one of a number of possible bigs but info is hard to come by.

God, shut up. Give him the offseason and he will make major improvements.
Lol don't get so offended. I think Haith would say the same thing to him. He's got talent. He just needs more experience for the game to slow down for him.

Weird... if you look on Catt's twitter... there's a ton of stuff in French on it back around 2017-18.... he must have come from some French speaking place. Reminds me a bit of Martins.

His name is Valentin Bina Bilounga Catt. Not sure where he’s from but I would guess Western Africa. It appears he got his last name Catt from the Michael Catt family in Texas. I imagine they adopted him.

Verification of educated guess.

Valentin Catt / 6’9″ / C / Orangefield (Orange, TX) / Level: Low Major

Strengths:

  • Long and active big man from Cameroon; protects the rim by altering and blocking shots; shot swatting extraordinaire
  • Will get on the defensive glass
  • Has displayed the ability to score in the paint; has upside
Weaknesses:

  • Raw talent who still has ways to go
  • Needs to develop a better feel around the basket

The 2018-19 season was his 1st year of organized basketball.

———————-

In his first year of competitive varsity basketball, the young man delivered on both ends, especially on defense, where he challenged almost every opposing shot.

Catt averaged 15 points, 11.4 rebounds and blocked 5.1 shots a game. He upped the ante in the postseason, where he was so instrumental. In the playoffs, he notched 15 points a game, 13.3 rebounds and 14 blocks in averaging a triple-double the hard way. He had an amazing 18 blocked shots in the bidistrict playoff win over Diboll.

BIG CATT TO TRANSFER

August 20, 2019

Valentin Catt will not be playing his senior year of basketball this season at Orangefield High School. Missing the Texas age requirements by two weeks according to his father, Catt will move to Florida for his senior season.

The 6-10 Catt came to OF last year and helped lead the Bobcats to their most successful season, advancing to the third round of the 3A playoffs and finishing with a 29-9 record.

Catt averaged 15 points, 13 rebounds and 5 blocks. In the playoffs he was even better averaging 15-13-14 in their three games.

Catt will play at Potter’s House Christian Academy in Jacksonville where he will get a lot of exposure with a national schedule. He has not made any verbal commitments as to his college career. Good luck Val!

Valentin Catt (Houston Defenders/Oreangefield HS/Orange, TX) 2020 6’10 PF
One of the most intriguing players in New Orleans for the Exposure HoopFest was Houston Defenders power forward Valentin Catt. He played like a grown man among boys. A defensive nightmare, the agile Valentin contested every shot from the wing to the rim, pinning shots high on the backboard. We was extremely aggressive on both ends of the glass, getting put backs in traffic and using his height and strength advantage to score against smaller opponents. He’s also a pretty good interior passer, utilizing the high low game several times with teammate Eddie Lampkin. But what makes Valentin such a high upside prospect is his versatility. He’s a kid that will be a major prospect if he lands on the right campus.

By the way, that bit I posted was from prephoops in Nov of '18, so it is not that current.

Question from someone ignorant of the specifics of official and unofficial visits. Do they get to participate in a practice session with the team when they are visiting?

Impressive video. A couple of those shot blocks were so thorough, I thought he was going to make a three pointer on those practice goals on the sideline. That would be pretty cool.

You were almost right, or half right.

'Cameroon is the world's 53rd-largest country. ... The country is located in Central and West Africa, known as the hinge of Africa,'

Only Division I men’s basketball is allowed to hold tryouts. Those tryouts are limited to prospective student-athletes who are seniors in high school, junior college transfers or four-year transfers who have completed their basketball season. They also must be on an official or unofficial visit to the campus.

The on-campus evaluations are limited to two hours per week, whether during the collegiate season or out of it. The two hours must take place during the regular allowable practice time (20 hours during the season, eight hours out of it).
