Just saw this post. It does cause you to wonder.....................Makes last year's NCAA selection even more appreciated.

AAC Basketball recruiting snapshot

Interesting to see how the teams in the league have been recruiting over the past three seasons. AAC has had 7 or more classes ranked in the 24/7 top 100 for those three seasons. This hasn't translated to the tournament however.

Also, what's up with Tulsa? Do they recruit?

I've ranked them based on how well they've recruited overall. The top 5 should ALWAYS compete for a tournament bid. These are good numbers overall in CBB.

Team: Rank in 15', 16', 17'

1. Uconn-39, 8, 21
2. SMU- 42, 52, 44
3. Memphis- 10, 92, 55
4. Temple- 52, 75, 57
5. Cincy- 58, 62, 61
6. UCF-56, Nr, 72
7. Houston-66, Nr, 69
8. USF-47, 87, Nr
9. ECU-100, 67, Nr
10. Tulane-72, Nr, Nr
11. Tulsa- Nr, Nr, Nr

I know recruiting rankings don't matter much in college basketball because of unbalanced classes, etc. Just thought it was interesting. We should hopefully see Memphis, Temple, Uconn return to the mix next season. SMU and Cincy will keep rolling.

Meh. 247 never ranks our recruits. It's weird. Their Oklahoma basketball recruiting is atrocious.

I agree. 247 sucks. They only had us with a 4 man class in 2016. No Wheeler, Magnay, Etou or Scott.

And SMU's 2016 class, with the studs from Australia who never made it to the 2nd semester of their 1st year, it hard to draw any conclusions about how good a class is.

And remember, 247 had Bucktrot and Fredericks, 2 FB OL's as PG's on our current BB roster. Yawn!

Makes no sense. Houston #69???? They've got 3 commits. 1 guy has zero other offers. 1 guy's best offers offers are Boise St. and La Tech. No way those 2 players move a team in the top 70. So throw them out and focus on their top signing vs ours.

Fabian White - Rivals 3 star, Unranked, best offers from: Creighton, SMU, and TCU.

Elijah Joiner - Rivals 3 star, Unranked, best offers from: Iowa State, Texas A&M, Missouri, and Illinois State.

I guess because Jeffries doesn't have offers from the likes of Boise/La Tech, we're not ranked like Houston.

Wouldn't worry about it too much. Remember we had 3 yrs of minimal recruits coming in because we had nine guys here for 3 years. We're fine

Winning solves a lot of concerns............

Scoring solves a lot of problems on the BB court.

Tulsa has 1-2 scorers on this team and 1 is currently redshirting. Tough to win with that...

You really need consistent top 50 recruiting classes to be a consistent at-large NCAA Tournament contender. Top 50 to 75 recruiting classes will put you in the mix but you are going to have to hit on some surprises.

I don't think that's true. You need 1 very good to great player and a bunch of guys who develop into good players. Tubby had 1 great player and a bunch of those other guys and he had top 16 teams 2 years in a row. Self...outside of Harrington not sure any of his guys fall into the very good to great category and those teams were top 25 teams every year (regardless of polls). Haith has a bunch of good players...will any of them develop into a very good to excellent player. The more I see of Igbanu, the more I see a superstar developing. Magnay and Taplin are in the good range. Etou has the chance to be a very good player. The potential for this team to be outstanding is there...right now it lacks consistency and sometimes that is due to lack of experience. One thing last year's team did was never panicked and that's why they always were able to stay in games. I think this year we've got the new guys and even the guys that haven't played in a while who get into they "must make something happen now" mode and you start to see forced offense and force shots and passes and a ton of TOs because of it.

i would love to see the stats showing recruiting class ranking from a star perspective and at large berth for teams from conferences that receive more than the automatic pick.
I have always felt most 5 stars are just that good but after that there is not that much difference between upper level 3 and 4 stars. It really gets into evaluation at that point. Easy to find 2-3 5* and make the tourney every year, Kansas, Kentucky etc.

Can we get the 1 All-American level guy though? I definitely haven't seen that level of recruiting out of Haith yet. The kid that ended up at Oregon might have been our best chance at that.

You saw what happened this year with OU. Now they get a 5 star PG and what usually happens is a couple of 4 stars will want to play with him. Then you are looking at an Elite Eight or better possibility. It takes that one breakthrough player usually. Let's hope we get Embery in November and become a fixture in March.

Along with Embery, Hopkins is another one of our priority recruits who's picking up a lot of interest, as well.

Trey Hopkins is going to Baylor for an unofficial this weekend. #PrepHoops

Embery will be a tough get with the likes of Arky, OSU, OU, etc...offering.

It's always an up hill battle when we're competing with the Big12. Always has been and most likely always will.

With the exception of Shea Seals, I can't recall us signing a 4-5 star type player. We've discussed many times the great Oklahoma high school players that we recruited, but to see them go to OU, OSU, KU, UNC, Ga Tech, ND, Ark, etc.

As has been done in the past, as with Tubby and Self, we've found the 3- star types and sleepers by doing an outstanding job of evaluating and finding players who fit together and knew their roles.

But if you don't recruit the elite players you'll never get one. We came in a very close 2nd to Oregon this past November. Hopefully we can break through and sign a ready to go stud.

Hope you're right. We have a number of disadvantages right off the bat when it comes to recruiting against most of the Big12 and SEC.
I'm always surprised when the SEC gets love in basketball. They're usually mediocre at best, with one decent team at the top

The facilities at some of these schools are amazing. Heck....even OSU's basketball facilities are downright incredible compared to almost all non-P5 schools...and before someone says there is no P5 classification for basketball the money generated by belonging to these conferences can buy some pretty darn nice bball digs and in most cases do. We are at a disadvantage in basketball in this state simply due money and the toys the same can buy.

I said to make it consistently. You can get an underrated group in and make the tournament several years in a row. However, if you want to make it virtually every year or 75% of the time you need to have consistent top 50 or so classes.
