UCF

UCF is making a lot closer game of it than I thought they would. 2 pt lead with 4 left.

Was tied up and wasn't able to start watching till 5 or 8 min ago. Has Tacko been in foul trouble most of the game?

Yes he was. Had 2 fouls in the 1st half with about 9-10 min to go. UCF put him back in around 7:30 left in the 1st and he played quite awhile then without fouling.

He never looked they great against us but he played fantastic defense tonight.

Did he ever get posterized is my question.

One thing I’ve learned, Tacko always fouls out. Would have been better off waking away from Zion there. Yeah, he would have had the putback and it would be one of greatest plays ever.

Think the ref should have swallowed his whistle. Zion dropped the shoulder on Taylor and created that contact from nothing.

Hell of a game. Duke made just enough shots and UCF avoided turnovers enough to make it a crazy toss up game.

In the 60s UCF wins, mid 80s or above Duke wins, anything in between and it's a toss up.

The contrast and match ups are why I love college basketball. Great game.

Agree on dropped shoulder.

Tacko had a foot in restricted area. They call that every time. Maybe they shouldn’t be that’s what happens.

Better game than Buffalo. Holy crap this is boring.

Probably the hardest matchup for Duke until they get to the Final Four. It’s also the reason why Gonzaga beat Duke early on is that they had the size to matchup with Duke and Gonzaga always is a decent shooting team as well.

Not sure I’ve ever seen a player who had people more eager to point out his deficiencies than Tacko. I think there was a season where it was the only non-Boston posts that BLA made. So kudos to that kid for working to improve his game to the point where he went toe-to-toe with the consensus #1 pick and dominated.

My youth team has a goal every game to never give up an offensive rebound on a missed free throw. One late rebound could have won the game for UCF.

Hey! I frequently make non-Boston related posts. I still don’t think Tacko is a long term player in the NBA. He will get signed to a team and they’ll let him play in the G-League for a bit to see if he can develop more but he has a couple of knocks that I don’t think he will be able to translate as an NBA player. For one, he is extremely slow footed and his footwork is just not NBA caliber. And unlike college basketball where you can park n the lane on the defensive end, in the NBA you actually have to at least feign looking like you’re guarding an actual player. So if he were to matchup with Anthony Davis, he’d have to chase Davis out to the 3-pt line, he can’t just hang out in the lane. And NBA big men usually have some semblance of an outside (at least 12-15 ft) shot. Tacko doesn’t and I’m not sure I’ve ever seen him shoot outside of 6 feet except for foul shots (which he is bad at). Manute Bol had great feet and was unusually athletic for his size. He also had a decent outside shot. Shawn Bradley had great quick feet and could also shoot. Georghe Muresan had good feet and was quick enough to stay with smaller C. Tacko has a long way to go before he gets to that level.

However, BJ Taylor has a chance as does Dawkins.

What year is Dawkins?

He's a junior.

Who red shirt transferred and had an injury year. Maybe this leaves a bad taste in his mouth and he comes back. His age makes him a late second round pick at best, but he can go make millions overseas, which is probably what Fall does as well.

My point was more what is good for the goose is good for the gander.

If they let Zion slide on a clear charge they shouldn't be calling a meh foul that Zion also created the contact on. To me that's just a bucket or it was a charge to start with. It was a great game either way and UCF had their chances.

I don’t disagree. But they usually call one and not the other. See my ongoing commentary of how terrible college officiating has become.

Bro, tell me about it. I was at the BOK for yesterday's games and Texas tech and Buffalo were beating the crap out of each other in the 1st half and the refs let them play. All of a sudden in the 2nd half they come out and start blowing the whistle for everything. Texas Tech was in the bonus at 17:21 left in the 2nd half. Buffalo's 7th foul happened about a minute later. It becomes difficult to watch.

UCI and Oregon....Oregon had 6 team fouls with 15 minutes left in the 2nd half, UCI had 2...bam, spate of foul calls on UCI to even it up.

If you want to call the game close, call it close from the beginning and set the tone. Waiting to do so until the 2nd half confuses players and coaches because something that wasn't a foul in the first half becomes a foul in the 2nd half. Plus college referees have started calling it like an NBA game not calling travelling, 3-seconds, and literally have no clue what a block or a charge are. It has encouraged players to try and be like Harden with the exaggerated hand flailing like he's been shot. Basketball players have become almost worse than soccer players in their flopping antics. It makes me appreciate Houston more (yuck, I feel dirty) as I think Kelvin has a tough team, they get after it, and there's not a ton of that crap going on.
