SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Tulsa will face Dayton as part of a tripleheader in the annual Basketball Hall of Fame Holiday Showcase presented by Citi on Sunday, Dec. 16 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced on Wednesday.

“We look forward to participating in this year’s Basketball Hall of Fame Holiday Showcase,” TU head coach Frank Haith said. “It will be a tremendous event and experience for our student-athletes. Any time you can be associated with the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, it’s really special and I’m excited that our program will be part of what will be a great celebration of our sport.”

“The Basketball Hall of Fame is pleased to return to Mohegan Sun for the Holiday Showcase presented by our newest partner, Citi,” said John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. “The six teams participating, and their fans, are sure to have a memorable day of basketball in a beautiful venue this holiday season.”

General public tickets will go on sale Friday, September 7 at 9 a.m. (CT) via all Ticketmaster outlets and the Mohegan Sun Arena box office. Game time, television details and an exclusive Citi-pass pre-sale opportunity will be released at later date.

The Golden Hurricane will return eight letterwinners from last year’s team, which went 19-12 and finished fourth in the American Athletic Conference. That group is led by point guard Sterling Taplin, who averaged a career-high 11.8 points and 4.4 assists per game a season ago. Tulsa also will get a boost inside with Jeriah Horne after he sat out the 2017-18 season following a transfer from Nebraska.

TU also returns DaQuan Jeffries (9.7 ppg/4.9 rpg), Martins Igbanu (9.4 ppg/5.1 rpg) and Curran Scott (5.9 ppg/2.1 rpg) along with Elijah Joiner, Darien Jackson and Alex Foree. In addition, the squad will welcome newcomers Chris Barnes, Simon Falokun, Peter Hewitt and Zeke Moore, while Reggie Jones will sit out the 2018-19 season after transferring from Western Michigan.

Meanwhile, Dayton went 14-17 under first-year head coach Anthony Grant in 2017-18. The squad finished ninth in the 14-team Atlantic 10 a season ago and will be led by forward Josh Cunningham, who was a third-team all-conference selection after he averaged 15.6 points and 8.4 rebounds for the Flyers.

Tulsa has won both previous meetings against Dayton, with the last matchup coming on March 20, 2003, in Spokane, Wash., when the Golden Hurricane topped the Flyers 84-71 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

This came across the CBS Sports app on a News update as well detailing the event and the match-ups. It is great publicity for the program. I am hoping Haith can use the publicity in recruiting.

Phillips' last win as the T.U. coach....It was also the last win for K.J., Dante, Charlie, and all
of the great seniors on that team.....We have had some momentary stretches of success
since then, but that game was really the last call for T.U. as a contender that could poss.
reach the "sweet sixteen" or even beyond....

Great memorys!!

This is great and sad at the same time. I miss the good ol days.

We are on that precipice. Feel like we are 1 player away
Quality big or two that require the attention of a defense would make a world of difference. We have shot makers if we could reduce the pressure and give them some space with the ball. We may have those guys, but what amount of development will it require for them to be productive and do we have the coaching staff in place to nurture that development.

You may be right. But I also think that Igbanu or Hewitt could be those guys with some awareness of what is happening around them when they have the ball. Almost no team leaves a big 1v1 in the post...you almost always see a double team and with increased awareness of where the double team comes from and where the open man is, a quick pass to counter the double will leave that open shot. I see this as a key point in Igbanu's continued development as he tended to hesitate in those situations. While I think he has phenomenal footwork as a post player...adding that pass awareness will make him even more dangerous.
