Tubby takes a huge hit

Memphis fans have been predicting this for weeks (on message boards).

Still, it's a shock when it actually happens.

Looks like UCF takes a hit too as Taco declares for the draft.

Tubby just does not do well in high pressure situations, made evident at Kentucky and circumscribed by these events.

Their dad is on the staff. Tubby demoted him from an assistant to support staff when he was hired. No surprise they are transferring. Look for dad to leave also. They have a brother who is a 5* 2019 kid.

I'm a big Tacko fan, but I think that's best for him and UCF. They are supposed to have some good players coming in next year. I'm not a believer in super tall centers in college ball because of all the quirks.

Wouldn't be surprised if there was not still friction between the Lawsons and the Tubby/ Saul deal.

Do the Lawsons end up at GaTech with Pastner?

As for Tacko, mistake. He's just not ready. He can hardly handle the grind of a 30 game college season...he played some of the lowest minutes as a starter I think I've ever seen and not always due to foul issues.

I hope Tubby puts some transfer restrictions on those 2 players!

I don't think this is all because Tubby demoted him. If Tubby had the team moving in the right direction and the Lawson's were confident in most of the players coming in next year, I'm willing to bet the demotion would have been tolerated.

He hasn't hired an agent and can go back if he's not going to get drafted. That said, you are completely wrong. Some team will take him. He needs NBA coaching in NBA sets. Goofy college coaches are going to come up with every gimmick to get around playing him straight up. NBA coaches won't do that as much.

He'll end up in the D league making more money than he does at UCF and with better coaching for him in the long term. Any other player I'd think you have a point, but here, his long term projection is NBA player and there is virtually nothing about the college game that helps himvbecause of his unique size and abilities. I will miss watching him, too, but he wants to make some cash. More power to him.

I agree he will get drafted, but only as a long term project and it will depend on how much patience the parent club has in letting him develop. We'll see what happens. If he does stay in the draft, I'll be happy to not have to see him block any more of our shots with his elbow

But that's the issue with him regardless. He might as well go pro when he's younger and there is more perceived long term value. He's always going to be a project. These guys always are. He might as well get the second round contract now rather than two years from now. He's got hung to the D league either way.

Europe or China are paying much better than the D league.

If he doesn't get this cleaned up, he may just be a 2 or at most 3 season coach for them. I'm assuming he thought he would retire after Memphis. Wonder if that will change if he gets canned this year or next? Would be a sad end to a good career if he did. Hopefully he can put a better product on the floor than expected after all this transfer attrition.

Memphis should have known that recruiting and retention is not Tubby's strong suit. Never has been. Hard to follow a 5 star recruiter like Pastner. Tubby has never enjoyed fan support anywhere he has been except Tulsa.

He may get more cheers here next year than in Memphis. It is probably good we didn't get Nolan or Tubby back to coach later on and can still remember the great times with them.

He should have come back to Tulsa instead of Memphis. Karma is a bitch.

He's a good coach, but kind of gets it done in a blue collar way. I don't see anything wrong with running off Pastner's coddled players, but he's losing his own now. I sure would like his press, but I'm excited to see what Henderson does for us.

Didn't we think about him when we hired Manning? His name had been rumored for years in different forms. All I'm saying is it might have worked out better, but that probably would have meant no Shaq Harrison. Things turned out well for us. Good look to him. Memphis fans have turned on him.

And look where the Lawson brothers are transferring to.

Gary Parrish‏ @GaryParrishCBS

Former Memphis standouts Dedric and K.J. Lawson are transferring to Kansas, their father told @CBSSports. Story coming.
Is there a runner in Memphis funneling kids from UMemphis to Kansas? It seems like there have been several notable transfers going from Memphis to KU in the last few years or so...including Tarik Black.

If Tubby's family is being attacked again, he won't be there long. He doesn't need to put up with that.
