Re: NCAA Tournament Thread

agree, we need to up the exposure for the AAC. SMU getting to the sweet 16 would be a great start. With UAB's win the road just got easier. They might get Duke there but they are beatable as well.

Need to cheer for all AAC teams at this point.

Re: NCAA Tournament Thread

So much for the Big XII being the best conference in the country. OU gotta be crapping their pants right now as the other Big XII 3 seeds not faring well

Re: NCAA Tournament Thread

Big 12 , "Nation's Top Conference" according to Pundits has lost a 3 seed and a four seed in less than 2 hours.

Re: NCAA Tournament Thread

I already know one of the first clips in the CBS montage...Ron Hunter falling off his rolling stool as his son hit the game winner

Re: NCAA Tournament Thread

They were both 3s. Doing poorly in the tournament does not mean it was an overrated conference. Similarly, if UCLA beats SMU, it doesn't mean UCLA is better than SMU or that UCLA deserved to be in the tournament. Or, if Kentucky loses, it doesn't mean they weren't the best team. That is the beauty of the single elimination tournament. The best team doesn't always win.

Re: NCAA Tournament Thread

Yeah I guess both were 3 seeds. Even worse !! The stool fall will always be on highlight reel. The power 5 proponents are terrified of this happening.

Re: NCAA Tournament Thread

I love seeing Phoggy trying to put these losses to Sun Belt and CUSA in a positive light. There is no positive in this to the Big 12 or the so called P5.

Re: NCAA Tournament Thread

See this is the reason the small schools shouldn't be in the tournament. There should only be like 3 conferences max in the dance.

Re: NCAA Tournament Thread

The third Big 12 team has lost in the past three hours. Texas belonged in the NIT. THE EYE TEST FAILS AGAIN!

Re: NCAA Tournament Thread

Texas got in based on close losses to good teams. Only fitting that they play Butler close and lose.

Re: NCAA Tournament Thread

Tough call against SMU. Moore still had two great looks and came up way short on both.

Re: NCAA Tournament Thread

Wow, what a bad beat on SMU. Alford goes off in the last 3 minutes with 4-4 from three, just like daddy.....
Can't believe SMU lost that game. Looked like a number of TU games late in the year.

Re: NCAA Tournament Thread

SMU loses on play that will be reviewed for days. Wanted SMU to win but not unhappy to see Nic Moore get his payback.

Thanks for correcting us. Most of us would think 2 different #3 seeds from the same conference losing to #14 seeds would indicate an overrated conference. Our bad.

Re: NCAA Tournament Thread

Brown had a great play call having Moore give up the ball to double back off a screen and get a wide open look.

Re: NCAA Tournament Thread

Maybe the worst ending to a game I've ever seen.

Just wow all around.

Re: NCAA Tournament Thread

The official with the clear view should have waived off the other official.

+1 I'm not a Nic Moore fan, so seeing him miss 2 shots at the end wasn't all bad. However, Cunningham had a bad turnover & Moreira capped an overall bad game with his goal tend. Moore & Kennedy carried SMU today. SMU did choke at the end, but the goal tend call was the play of the game.

That loss did cost TU approx. $130,000 over the next 6 years, $260,000 if they would've then beat UAB !

if I were Phoggy, I would be worried... ISU beat KU... ISU got beat by UAB... UAB>KU???

Doesn't look good for Hollywood in this round.. .. NMSU>KU?

WSU may be Dorothy's only option come Sunday....

Re: NCAA Tournament Thread

Isn't this like the thief complaining about when he gets robbed? I don't feel bad for them. I had SMU going a long way, but I'm also not sad they lost. That's a lot of penalty for zero tournament wins.

Re: NCAA Tournament Thread

SMU could see a SMU/UAB game for a sweet sixteen. Moore guarded Alford poorly.

Re: NCAA Tournament Thread

First, I have already stated that I fully expect KU to not make it past the first weekend. ISU and Baylor losing, however, makes it no more or less probable that KU loses.

Second, I was thrilled to see ISU and Baylor lose. Those were both exciting games and the reason this tournament is so great. It is a bit ridiculous to state that P5 schools hate to see upsets. Just like everyone that makes the tournament, they hate upsets of their teams but love them otherwise. Non-P5 fans make a much bigger deal about upsets than P5 fans do. They are fun to watch but overall pretty meaningless. KU lost to Bucknell and Bradley and then won a title two years later. Those losses did not adversely impact KU and they did nothing for the long term benefit of Bucknell and Bradley.

Third, if you are using that argument against the Big12, what does that say about the American? The conferences undisputed best team lost to maybe the worst at-large selection in recorded history. I guess TU would have been better off staying in CUSA. It is obviously a better conference this year than the American.

Re: NCAA Tournament Thread

My "follow the professionals" bracket is busted, but others still in play.

Have to disagree with Phoggy. If you play in the #1 overall conference you don't have an excuse for losing to #14 seeds PERIOD. No way the Big XII should have been rated that high given their performance today. That inflated their SOS ranking which causes the teams individual RPI and BPI numbers to be wrong.

Gooners, Tuck Fexas and OSWho probably didn't belong in the NCAA's but watch those pig lovin' cowpokes got to the Sweet 16 on me (I hate those guys).

Given the SMU losses, loss to OSWho and Gooners, etc. I have to admit that Tulsa was not close to deserving an invite. The one team that I thought got in ONLY because of their name beat our regular season and conference tournament champion today. Just like they did lat year. All the talk of the AAC getting snubbed might just be all hot air.

Reality settling in, sigh....

Re: NCAA Tournament Thread

So now we have to be for the Bearcats or watch the American go 0 for the NCAA Tournament. That's a Hobbs choice.

What was Ellis thinking?! Looked like he just tried to elbow the Purdue player in the face.

I'm not sure how I didn't know he was kicked off the team then came back after CC.

Re: NCAA Tournament Thread

The American winning the national championship last year did NOTHING for the conference this year!!! It doesn't matter what SMU or Cinici does. The NCAA tourney is not a statement on conferences, it's all about match ups and even then it's a toss up based on confidence and luck.

Re: NCAA Tournament Thread

Agree with Marsh but no question in my mind Big 12 was overrated all year.

Re: NCAA Tournament Thread

It depends on how you rate a conference. Is it better to have 70% of your teams to be tournament caliber and five of those to be Sweet 16 max caliber teams? Or is it better to have 45% of your teams to be tournament-caliber and have two final four caliber teams and two Sweet 16 caliber teams?

Re: NCAA Tournament Thread

You won't see many games more contested.
