For passing the Clean Water Act of 1972 which anticipated issues no one likely foresaw at the time.

It would be impossible to pass similar legislation now, much less see the leadership in this area coming from a Republican.
 
Well, WATU, you kind of got it right. It was indeed passed under Richard Nixon who also started the EPA.

It was renewed and revised in 1977 when Jimmie Carter was President and again in 1987 when Ronald Reagan was President. And it wasn't just renewed but each time it was made stricter. And that, WA, was a good thing. Like any law there are things that both sides could find wrong with it, but it was a very good thing.

Our fresh water needs to be protected. Thanks Dick, Jimmie, and Ronny and the US Congress.
