It even feels like a fall football day today. I’m looking forward to seeing Davis Brin @ QB. Should be an interesting spring game!

The D is absolutely loaded and may be better than last year even with losing Zaven. There were guys who stepped in and made plays when Zaven was off the field last season.Jester is right about Chris Lovick. Very fast & smoked a DB who had an angle on him for a long TD run. Appeared to have some toughness to him, too. I was pretty impressed with our backup QB, a redshirt frosh named Roman Fuller who was very accurate on short & medium throws. Didn't see him throw it long.
Prince is quick, shifty & continues to run hard. Brin throws a beautiful ball. Perfect spiral, always, but he overthrew a few deep balls. He's apparently been kind of erratic with deep throws in practice. Lights out one day & not so the next. Not worried about it because Stokes, Santana, Crawford, Josh Johnson & Co. will catch a bunch of those deep balls.
A guy I wasn't aware of, a JUCO xfer named Wallace-#22-will help us in the back-end. Nice closing speed & can cover as a safety. At LB, another guy (Dorian Hopkins-#41) made a bunch of tackles. Darrius Murdock on the DL was a stud (from Union HS) as was Goodlow-only a Jr. Add Jaxon Player, Stevenson, Wick, young H. Grant & others...I'm not concerned about our D-line. Of course, with Greene, Evans, K. Ray, C. Williams, T. Martin & others, we should have a top AACK D-backfield once again. Just very excited!
If we do as well as we think we might, we could potentially lose Monty.I wasn’t there but the comments I received from several folks that were, leads me to believe that Coach Hanson deserves national recognition for the job he’s done on the O line in just a year. Next season could be his last at TU. He’s that good.
I would say so Huffy I mean we are big athletic have some interchangeable parts and depth going to be fun watching those guys punish teams into the 3rd and 4th quarters plus we have some backs that can hit the holesI wasn’t there but the comments I received from several folks that were, leads me to believe that Coach Hanson deserves national recognition for the job he’s done on the O line in just a year. I’m good with Brin taking chances. It’s the only reason we beat Tulane. Keep slingin’ it, young man!Zach Long kicked field goals, but Tipton was there. I don’t remember any kickoffs.
I thought Brin looked pretty good overall. He gets rid of the ball quickly and has good zip on the ball. He threw some great passes & missed on some passes. The wind contributed to a few long pass overthrows. I think he’s going to be somewhat like Brett Favre in that he will err on being too aggressive vs too passive. Fuller played better than I expected as back up QB.
Our WRs were OK, but not as impressive as they can be. We had some nice catches, but a few drops. Crawford dropped a beautiful 40-50 yd pass in the end zone. I hope their overall lack of separation is due to our good DBs & the defense knowing our routes & plays.
I was very impressed impressed with our defense overall, especially our depth. Our 2nd team LBs look as good as many of our previous years 1st team LBs.
Our RBs looked very good, especially #23, Watkins & #6, Lovick. Watkins has great acceleration and looks big enough to run through tackles. Lovick is shifty & fast.
Walk on NT #44, Joseph Anderson had a few nice plays. Player & Stevenson didn’t suit up today. #58 DE, Devin Lamp, looked very good rushing the passer. All 3 levels of our defense look very good.
Overall, I’m really looking forward to the fall & today did nothing to dampen my enthusiasm!
A kid can dream. If we do as well as we think we might, we could potentially lose Monty.
That’s been true several seasons now. We did as well as we thought we might, and I wanted to take out Monty. If we do as well as we think we might, we could potentially lose Monty.
