Can’t say I know much about these things but I wouldn’t think we have much leverage over Russia in prisoner negotiations beyond reducing our involvement in Ukraine, which we’re not going to do to free prisoners. I don’t think they really care that much about bringing their people home. Not saying it’s a great move, because I really don’t have an opinion, but it might be the best they could do.

Swapping the guy below for an American convicted of a minor drug offense certainly sets a poor precedent for future prisoner exchanges. Not just with Russia but other countries as well. Glad she’s home. Afraid of the future consequences of our decision here. Shouldn’t have been this guy. Plenty of other Russians in US prisons.


 
I would think it would take Bout a while to build his network up again after nearly 15 years in jail. But he will be dangerous in a few years. I think Russia was more worried about what he knew.
