SMU thinks they're going undefeated

Tuesday afternoon when students are on Christmas break...want to talk about DEAD and no energy in the place.

The conference did us ZERO favors with the schedule. I think we are the only school with 0 consecutive home games, while some if not most have 2-3 several times. It's pretty stupid.

They won't go undefeated but they're really really good.

Irony. SMU has a team that can't win the conference or play in postseason.

I thought the game time was a misprint at first. What's the rational behind playing at such an odd time?

We're playing our biggest home game of the season at 4pm on a Tuesday? Assuming it's a TV thing but I can't imagine many viewers in that time slot. Odd

According to kenpom.com, SMU is favored in every game until Feb. 18th @UConn. They are also currently underdogs @Cincy on Mar. 6th. Two other games are basically coin flips - @TU and @Memphis. Everything else is currently 69% or better chance of SMU victory.

4pm?!?!?

I hoard vacation for the end of the year to watch bowl games but plenty of people are back at work.

We probably can't be on real TV at night due to said bowl games on the ESPNs but I'd rather us be on espn3. That's brutal.

They'll also likely play Colorado in Vegas. That puts their odds at about 1 in 500 of going undefeated. It's hard to win every game.

Agreed. They will probably lose 5 or 6 games. Just saying as of now, looking at each individual game, there are not many in which they won't be favored going in.

The ole Ponies have a nice atmosphere now...
I'm guessing the renovated arena seats about 7K.

The environment has come a long way since the 200 people that would show up during the Tubbs and Dougherty eras...

It would be interesting for someone who has time to compare the programs over the past 35 years...I'm pretty confident TU has experienced far more success (conference titles, NIT appearances, NCAA appearances, Sweet Sixteens, Elite Eights, etc...).

Regardless, I have no hate for the Ponies. I've followed them for a long time...I just don't think they have a recent "storied past" related to basketball. The Larry Brown hire was obviously a gamechanger.

obviously pony boy isn't old enough to remember the Nolan Richardson, Tubby Smith and Bill Self era of relevance at TU. SMU was doodling around flailing before no fans for 12 years. Before last year, TU had a 10 game winning streak at Moody. The old SW Conference was a lower major in basketball for decades when no one carried about anything but (cheating at) football.

Or maybe he is old enough to remember all that, and he's just trying to bait us cuz he has nothing better to do....

Believing in your team for an undefeated season.... I like that attitude!

I'll be sitting with Gold at the 4 pm SMU game. Completely bemused that an SMU fan would try to argue that SMU even has a basketball tradition, much less that it surpasses TU's. The ponies have sucked air for an eternity and only by cheating their asses off are even having a blip of success, if, of course, you call LOSING to a mediocre UCLA team in the first round of the NCAAs success.

Keep the good posts coming No - Orange.
