Writing in Jon Stewart on my ballot in November (wouldn't matter for me since I live in an R state anyway) It seems like he's the only guy willing to speak the truth to the American people and people in Washington these days and he advocates for the plight of real Americans.

The millions of dead babies from his eugenics programs might disagree!

Interesting. I would wager businessmen (and women) give more per capita to charity than any other group in the US.

How many give a greater percentage of their networth or income than most Americans?

Me.
I'm no a billionaire, just a guy who worked for 50 years, paid my taxes, raised two children; now grand kids, retired and drawing ss and medicare.
Aren’t these the two socialist programs that Republicans want to eliminate?

Actually, it is the Dems who want to make "Medicare for all." That is a way of saying Medicare goes away and there is socialized medicine. I'm not saying all Democrats are for that but the Bernie and AOC crowd want it.

What makes something 'socialist'? Originally it was government ownership of the means of production. Medicare pays for services produced by private individuals or corporations.

Socialism is when the government takes over things that used to be private. In the case of health care, it is when everyone gets health care paid for by the government. The extreme case would be when you have paid into a government program for all of your working life and then the government has you and a person who never contributed to the program both receive the same benefits. Note that they don't say medical care for everyone but rather Medicare for everyone. The implication is that everyone gets what people on Medicare get for their contributions.

This is not true but I did find it funny.

That's a big change from the original meaning and philosophy, but it makes sense in understanding how it is used by Republicans these days, although for most it seems to carry negative associations with Karl Marx and Communism. So now is "socialism' to be equated with anything new (not done before) by government for the entirety of Americans instead of just for one's peer group?

Certainly business and financial groups have no compunction when it comes to inventing new forms of government benefits and financial support. The concept of 'corporate socialism' doesn't seem to carry nearly as much weight.

Interesting how Medicare and Social Security are no longer considered 'socialist' despite their being opposed so strongly for so long as socialism.

Wrong, Medicare and SS are socialistic. Its government doing something that I can do for myself.
