Tulsa commit Rod Brown led Pearl River CC to the National Tournament in Hutchinson, KS, with a win over Jones CC last night to win the Mississppi state title. Pearl River is ranked #2 in D1 NJCAA and has a perfect 28-0 record.

Brown led Pearl River with 21 points. He added 5 rebounds and 2 blocks in the 75-62 win. Brown is averaging 13.5 pts and 6 rbs on the season. Brandon Rachal led Pearl River to the National Tournament in Hutchinson last year, as well, averaging 15.5 pts and 8.7 rbs.

I watched the game last night and see lots of similarities with Rachal. Brown is also very athletic, posts up nicely and has good inside moves. He doesn’t have range to the 3-point line but has a nice mid-range jumper. Like Rachal, he likes to get out and run, finishing with dunks. He’s also looked to for back door slams.
