Many on these boards (Hurricane Alley specifically) have complained about our 16' recruiting class. I think our current class looks very promising:

Korita - 3 star with offers from Creighton, Mississippi St., Wichita St., and others. 6'5 pure shooter, reminiscent of Ron Baker (Wichita St). Reportedly still growing.

Igbanu - 3 star with offers from Cincinnati, Iowa St., Ole Miss, Mississippi St., Tennessee, and others. 6'8 athletic PF. Type of big we need to compete in AAC.

Atson - 3 star with offers from Memphis, Depaul, Iona, Richmond, Southern Illinois, and others. Think he will be the steal of this class. Another 6'5 shooter with great athleticism.

Henderson - 3 star out of high school with offers from Wichita St., Fresno St., and Wright St. Out of our current commits, he is the one I'm not sure about. Would like to know circumstances surrounding his transfer from Wichita.

-Haith is addressing our need for shooters with Atson and Korita.
-Solid athletic big in Igbanu
-Excited about Taplin as our future PG, and think Kajon Brown brings athleticism with potential.
-Compare the 16' class so far to Manning's only full class: Stevie Reps, Lew Evans, Marquel Curtis, TK Edogi, Eze Chinonso. Out of these players - one 3 star (Eze), top offers from all of these players combined were Northern Iowa, Iona, Nevada, and UAB.

Some people on the boards think because we haven't gotten top 100 players like UCONN have that we won't be able to compete. Even in our heyday in late 90's and early 2000's, did we ever have 1 top 100 player out of high school? Enlighten me if we did.

We had elite coaches during that time period. Haith has yet to demonstrate that he can win NCAA tourney games with this type of recruit. The 2016 class will shape TU basketball for at least the next two years. We all hope Haith can compete and win in the AAC with "his" guys. We will need to out-perform our recruiting rankings to do just that. We've done it before....hoping history can repeat itself at 11th and Harvard.

I wouldn't call John Phillips an elite coach and he won 2 NCAA tournament games with those type of recruits. But I get what you're saying, I just feel the 16' class is pretty solid so far. If we don't make the tournament this year, and hopefully get at least to the round of 32, then I'll be concerned with Haith's coaching abilities.

McDaniel was a top 100 recruit for Bill Self....his highest....

Keondre Dew - 3 star with offers from UConn, Florida St, Memphis, Oklahoma St, and others. 6'8 athletic PF. "Great size and versatility, which allows him to play and defend multiple positions. He is a great rebounder and has an excellent ability to block shots."

Not saying it's entirely fair, but this coaching staff whiffed on their first recruiting class and it's on them to prove they can properly evaluate guys like this. It doesn't help that the cupboard is bare beyond this year and many of these 2016 recruits need to be ready to play significant minutes as soon as they arrive on campus.

My memory is shaky but I thought Dew was recruited by Manning.

Dew received those offers early on in the process. By the time we signed him virtually all those schools had backed off. I think we found out why.

I could have coached those teams to wins in the NCAA tournament. Not making the Sweet 16 in 2001, 2002, & 2003 should have been immediate red flags about the coaching abilities of Buzz and Phillips. We were a 12 seed in 2002 and #13 in 2003 (if my memory is serving me correctly). There is no conceivable way Phillips should have been allowed to stay after 2003 (sort of like Houston firing Levine last year after reaching a bowl game).

Yes, that's part of my overall point. Rivals offer sheets are often deceiving.

Dating back to 2007, the only class I see that could compete with the '16 class is the 2012 class with Woodard, Shaq & company. Although it took a while to really gain confidence in Haith's recruiting abilities, the '16 class will look to prove his mettle. And from what I see, I think it will be one hell of a class. I love Korita, & I'm getting more & more excited about Atson. Igbanu may be the key in the long run, though.

Offer sheets combined with "official" visits and sometimes "unofficial" visits are much more accurate imo. Schools don't typical have a player in for an OV unless he has a committable offer on the table. However, there are those players who just don't take visits for whatever reason too.
