After building a 30-9 lead that held until the fourth quarter, Tulsa couldn’t finish off No. 24 SMU on the road. TU missed a field goal in regulation while the Mustangs converted six fourth downs and ran off 21 points to tie the game. The Hurricane then missed two field goals in overtime.
SMU finally won 43-37 when Shane Buechele threw a 25-yard touchdown to James Proche in the third overtime.
