After several hours of research, here are the top University of Tulsa PG by Assist/Turnover Ratio which most consider the most important stat. Some of these were 2 year , 3 year or 4 year players which did not affect the ratio.

1. 2.42 Byron Boudreau (# 3 in career assists here) (Huffy will like this stat)
2. 2.23 Pooh Williamson ( only 124 turnovers in 4 years)
3. 2.02 Ricky Ross ( 364 assists in two years here for the best yearly average assists)
4. 1.58 Mike Anderson
5. 1.57 Greg Harrington (# 1 in career assists here)
6. 1.54 Mark Morse
7. 1.51 Shaq Harrison (#2 in career assists here)
8. 1.44 Reggie Shields
9. 1.33 Paul Pressey
10. 1.28 Rod Thompson
11. 1.27 Ben Uzoh

Honestly Byron’s ratio should be better because he made a lot of great thread-the-needle passes that were fumbled by the receiver.

That’s a very good observation. A great point guard is obviously a big factor in the success of a team, but conversely, a great team always makes a point guard look better.

When you’re a point guard on a great team, you will get a boost to your assist/turnover ratio. That happens 2 different ways. First, you pass to players who are good shooters, with the result being more assists. Second, you pass to players who can handle your passes, with the result being less turnovers.

Pritchard benefits from Selebangue at the receiving end of those hard to handle passes close to the bucket. None of the other guys have a fighting chance at those, so those two guys are nicely paired.

Pooh was the best true pg..Greg Harrington was better but just an old school guard... Swanson the same...Tony Heard same....As an old guard ..easier to find...we need 2 big men...

The PG in April should be very experienced; someone who can command a team. And needs to be a Pooh type ball handler. The immediate play bigs are the toughest for TU to get but they also should be ready to play as Selebangue was.

Konkol&Co. are off to a really good start in their obtaining some of the needed
ingredients for the '23 recruiting class...If Williams, Reed and Hall stay in the
program, they would all project to have fine careers...Trouble is, the needs were
so great going into this class, as we are learning what we have in house, that it
seems the harder part may still be in front of them....Now we are down to specific
needs at specific positions.....

A PG that can play make, defend, and with high level handle skills to minimize
turnovers, and the experience to do it from the git-go....

A rim protecting "Big" that can be the default defender around the paint area,,,
An area that has been a "killer bee" defensively for this team this season.....We
have learned to take charges from breakaway drivers, but that has only helped
to partially correct what has been a real problem....

A really good player that may be able to play more than one position...Possibly
a 6'6"/7" type wing.....

That's an awfully tough shopping list, but I would bet that Konkol's crew has
something like that in mind...It will be after season's end before much else will
be finalized.....Let's wish them well!!

I think some of you are going to be disappointed with the rest of the class of '23. My guess is there won't be two big men unless maybe chukwu, nikita, or dalger are not with us. And those saying we need 3 or 4 additional recruits are probably going to be disappointed too. We'll likely pick up 2 or 3 new recruits. Hopefully it will be 3, so we won't have people picking Konkol apart for JUST getting 2 additional players.

One of the better by-lines from the original "Top Gun" was "target rich environment"....
That's what Harrington was passing to when he set TU's assist record...Four of the
starters (including him) averaged in double figures, and two others were at/near 9PPG..
This was the 2001-2 team when he was a senior....One of the strengths of that team was
almost everyone chipped in to put 2+ assists and 2/3 rebounds on their stat lines....They
were versatile in their skill sets, and were very strong at sharing the ball and doing the
non-stat work that defines winners....Self's staff (before they had left) had recruited a
group of 'complete' BB players....

Regardless of whether Konkol&Co. sign two, three or even four more players this spring,
they will be looking to build a team that has the size and talent to compete successfully
at this level.....How well they succeed 🤞will determine our ability as a team over the
next two or three years....This is a critical phase in the rebuilding process he hopes to
achieve.....

For the big man inside I think we might see a grad transfer a la Kauri Black who can hold down the fort while Reed builds strength and learns the college game.
