Questions about TULSA

Hello all,
As an SJSU fan I am excited for our match up on Saturday. I know little about your team other than you have a good QB. Can people let me know what to expect on Sat, and some of the players I should watch for? I am happy to do the same about us.

thanks

The best player on the field for Tulsa will be WR Keevan Lucas (#2). His other bookend @ WR is Josh Atkinson who is also one of our better players. Look for QB Dane Evans to go to them early and often. We are a RB by committee with an unknown transfer from OSU who we haven't seen play yet. We don't throw to TE's EVER. On defense, all TU fans have their fingers crossed that we are improved from last year's squad even though we return several of the same players. Just one or two more defensive stops per game and Tulsa will be above .500 for the season. My expectation is for our kicking game to be average and probably not as good as the SJSU punter from stats I've seen.

If the bowl game was any indication of our future play calling on offense. I think the tight end will be a bigger ℅ target this year than some expect.

Sounds like our teams have a lot of similarities. The best player on our offense is our TE Freeman. He is probably the best TE in the MW and our QB Potter will throw to him a lot if able. We have several good WR's including a USC transfer, our #1 receiver is out for the year. Our RB's are by committee lead by a Washington transfer that we have never seen. Our D has let the team down in the past, especially on the run. We are hoping our new coordinator improves our D. If so we should be over 500 as well. Our coaches keep practice closed and show little in public scrimmage so we know about as much about our new D as you do. Sounds like a possible high scoring game.

Sounds like a possible high scoring game.

This is almost a certainty. No defense could prevent TU from scoring and TU couldn't prevent anyone from scoring.

It should be an excited matchup and I'm glad football is finally back!

Two of our DEs, Kolton Shindelar and Jeremy Smith, are incredibly athletic, tall guys and can really chase after guys. Bigger tackles or double teams should be able to keep them from getting in the backfield, but if they get back there their quickness makes it very difficult for QB or RB to get away. Kolton is playing his 3rd position in 3 years and Smith has switched sides for DE.

Look for a 5 hour game with lots of scoring... My prediction TU wins 63 to 56 on a great defensive stand with 25 seconds left on the clock!!! Enjoy!

So is it true that the average home costs $1,000,000 in San Jose? o_O:cool:

I'm looking forward to the game, it should be a good barometer of how our season is going to go, our O-line has some question marks as it is being pieced together but should be a solid group overall.

Shindelar is a poor man's JJ Watt. If he can learn some technique to go along with his freakish athletic ability he could wreak havoc the next 2 years.

looking to see what brubaker can do from the DE position with the move from the DT position, hayden Carmen and jerry U have to hold up and clog the middle

They test on the line isn't the starters or the position switches. It's whether the rotation can maintain consistency. Lots of young untested guys behind them.

The 2 deep on the Tulsa World seems like a pretty good rotation of 8 guys on the D-Line. Only Shemmar Robinson and Trevis Gipson are "inexperienced" Gipson has been lauded for a while as the next guy up at DE, and Robinson came in and won a backup role from day one. Both should be pretty serviceable backups.

If it is not then it is darn close. San Francisco and San Jose have become #1 and #2 most expensive cities in the USA. Makes it tough on us middle class folks.

Interesting comment on your DE's. Our QB is more of a mobile QB than a true passer. Our O-line with one exception is fairly experienced so I hope they cane keep them out. If not it might be a long day for us.

Our new DB's are making some of their first starts but they played a lot last year behind two guys that went to the nfl (well 1 just got cut from the roster). It will be interesting to see how they handle the increased pressure, SJSU has started to get a bit of a rep for having a good backfield.

How are your LB's?

Our leading LB is Tago, he is also a top MW contender and likely an NFL draft pick. He is fun to watch. Interesting note he was recruited as a QB.
After that there is a drop off. Ginda started last year as a true freshman and had moments of brilliance and moments of uhhh not. The rest of our LB crew is young as well and we know little about them. In previous years they have been better at defending the pass than the run, but with a new DC it is hard to tell. They have kept things pretty secretive.

If 2016 Tulsa bears any resemblance to 2015 Tulsa than your QB should have a very good day. TU struggled mightily last year against mobile QBs. Last year we would really put pressure on QBs to scramble but our coverage would typically breakdown and lead to long passes.

This sounds like it should be a very fascinating match up. I look forward to it.
