I had this great thought out post for who I wanted to call out as player of the game, assuming we pulled this off.

That last missed field goal pretty much killed it, but after a long drive home, I really felt like they still deserve it.

The Offensive line played amazing tonight. With the sh*t they have been getting all year, I think it needs to be recognized their roll tonight was pivotal in us nearly pulling off that upset. We had one false start all night (and it was on a Running back), no holds that i recall, running lanes were in places they havent been all year and while zach may have had a sack (or two?) He had a pretty good pocket to throw from.

Kudos big guys, keep fighting.

I think I'd probably give it to Smith.

I am starting to believe I was wrong about the WR talent though. They get better every game and even guys like Santana, who we've only seen a bit of, are making me feel better about the future. Our new coach will have plenty to work with next year

Other than the cash flow problem, that will make our coaching search much more viable. Too bad we lose so many on defense though. That's a little tougher to recruit over than the offense, for a school like us.

Tell me who’s buying out Monty’s 4 million buy-out clause ?. TU spends “peanuts” on it’s football program compared to other conference members .

O-line did an admirable job last night. Smith did have time to throw and they were creating some running lanes. I noticed that we had a new right guard in there. Seems like we've had 3 different starters there this season.
Speaking of "Player of the Game", where was Player. Jaxon Player was absent last night and I didn't see him on the bench in street clothes either. Anyone know?

Bruce said he was hurt on the radio

His buy out isn't 4 million. I was told if we wait till the end of the season it is next years pay. I believe we also have some assistant's that would have to be bought out. Some where over 2m is more accurate. Next year also comes with a 5m+ a year bump in media pay out.

If you didn't see the crowds at homecoming, I'm not sure we can get him to the end of the season without causing serious damage to the program support.

Just checked, the attendance for the game was 17,183 for homecoming.
I'd say the damage has been done at this point. I don't think he's going anywhere this season or the administration would've pulled the trigger by now. There are only a handful of games left on the schedule. I won't buy another ticket until he's gone; as it's my only means of protest besides venting on here.

I was going by what Bill Haisten quoted on The Sports Animal . Does anyone really know the exact amount since TU is private ? The players have competed their butts off the last two games , we all realize that TU should be at least have a 4-3 record and could have gone to a minor bowl game . If only we had a decent high school kicker, I’m sorry but this guy as zero confidence in himself .

That's about the same attendance as last time we hosted a conference championship game (2012).

I thought Sam Crawford was clutch in the 2nd half (I missed most of the 1st). He caught passes that converted on about 4 3rd down plays.

I havent bought a ticket in over 2 years because i refused to support monty. Sucks to have been right the last few years.

POG - 17,183 loyal fans!

Yes, a lot of whom left early. It's a tough position to be as a fan but the amount of clear out early the last two games is a pretty obvious message to me.

The question is if the administration is getting the same message as I am.

My understanding was that it was bowl or bust for Monty, we are one loss away from the decision if that is the case. However it may be financially beneficial to wait till the end of the season. My guess is a few names are already being discussed as replacements, next loss probably means some discreet inquiries go out.

They fired a popular alum after 2 losing seasons so I can’t imagine them being ok with 3 and we are staring down the barrel of a 2 win season with a talented team.

If we don't retire our valuable players for next season, we have 2 or 3 possible wins. I doubt we go 1-3, much less 0-4. We are hitting the weakest half of our non conference schedule.

Stead fired a popular alum after 2 losing seasons because he had a different vision of accountability that stretched across campus. so I can imagine them being ok with 3 and we are staring down the barrel of a 2 win season with a talented team. By eating this bad season and another one, we will be in the best financial shape we’ve been in for years over in athletics and can choose who we want within reason. It will be worth it.

@HuffyCane you seem to pay the closest attention to the financial side. Why is everyone saying next year would be the last year of Monty’s deal? If the original deal was five years and then two years were added on to give him “five additional years” when they signed the extension at the end of 2016 (with Clancy as president btw), wouldn’t he still have two more years on the deal after this season?

Ive been told, as have apparently others on here, that the final two years are essentially options and the buy out, if any, is substantially less after next season. Who knows if that is the full picture.

I believe the last year is an option. The buy out dives after this season though.

We'll wait and see about your 1% guess. I am not the most well connected person, but the person who told me this would be in a position to know and said it was made clear before the season this was the case. If he gets close maybe he escapes, but those failed upsets of Memphis and SMU were pretty much the end of that opportunity.

We were late tot he game (end of 1Q) because my daughter had to cheer at a 4th grade game in Collinsville that took forever and a day to get done. Anyway, as we were walking into the stadium...we noticed a handful of fans leaving already, ready to go do something else. Pretty sad they missed a great and entertaining football game. A lot of people left at halftime...not sure why as it had become clearer in the 2Q that we had finally decided to play and this was going to end up a tight game. Maybe they weren't prepared for how cool it actually was (if you were prepared properly, it was pretty pleasant to watch the game). IDK...there was plenty of good beer left inside the stadium at the little kiosks and carts.

I’m actually ok with that. If We could get 5:00 pm or 6:00 pm kickoffs and we start to get a buzz as a place for local young TU alumni to “pre-game” before going on to party elsewhere, then I’m good with the additional 1,000 ticket sales. Arena football is actually modeled on this in some cities. Grandpa leaving at half because he’s seen us get Monty’d too many times is a different story. But I’ve met several young people at games this season who aren’t students who just come out to tailgate and don’t go to the game. Also very encouraging. When the product improves on the gridiron, some will be season ticket holders. The rest will help turn the generational shift in our regular attendance that is coming quickly.

I'm disappointed we haven't won more games this season. This team is pretty entertaining to watch and has shown indications and signs of actually being very good. We keep shooting ourselves in the foot in some random and completely stupid ways.
