Official HC Speculation Thread

If he wouldn’t accept a buyout clause two years ago do you think he’ll suddenly accept one now?
I never even researched it because I figured there was one: (there was)

"One of the more notable aspects of Kinne’s previous contract was its unique buyout clause. Initially, it included a 50% buyout provision, meaning Texas State would owe Kinne half of his remaining deal if terminated, and Kinne would owe the same if he resigned. However, last year’s restructuring increased the buyout to 75% of the then-$5 million deal.

That meant if either party were to end the contract, the other would owe approximately $3.75 million. Had Kinne opted to pursue a higher-paying coaching role next offseason, the cost of his departure would’ve dropped to around $3 million — a substantial figure for the Bobcats."

That is his former contract. I'm assuming the next one will be structured similarly to the 75% restructuring he received last year. So that would be 5 x 2m x .75 = 7.5M buyout now.

We won't come up with Wilson's buyout, (between 3M & 4.5M) 7.5M buyout for Kinne, 2.5m minimum salary, increased salaries of assistants, and significant Nil. That new contract w/ buyout made it null and void.

Will Interview:

Jake Spavital ... I pray
Charlie Weis, Jr
Scott Symons DC
Jordan Davis
Erik Chinander DC
Greg Gasparato DC

Outside looking in/Should Interview:
GJ Kinne
Brennan Marion
Tashard Choice
Jason Beck
Darin Hinshaw
Lots of DC's in your list of interviewers. Tons of OC's in your list of outsiders.

I would certainly throw an interview at Symons, Marion, Kinne if he would take the call and the sides were close.

Just please, no retreads.

Good Lawdy, people talking bout Todd Graham’s marriage when we should be freaking out somebody might consider Jake Spavital. I’m guessing “ey466555” is Big Al or Bill Haisten.

That’s my bad LEC. I should have done better with keeping up with Graham’s marriage before making the joke. 😁

Confident that Spavital is not on the short list. Many names are being thrown around, some by their agents or family, that are simply not in the running. This is a very tight lipped process. When we are close credible sources will send out some signals.
In the mean time we can speculate, joke or whatever else we want because only 1 or 2 posters on this board may have any influence in the decision. I think people know who they are and I definitely am not one of them. Que up a Seinfeld reference.

It's Thanksgiving, so I'll be grateful that we have an AD that pulled the trigger on an important executive decision. Also grateful that there's a place like this where I can interface and commiserate with other TU fans (save the lone dirtbag in here with $$ in her name). Cause for optimism after 2 seasons of ineptitude.

Here is one I don’t think anyone has thought of and is not worse than some of these suggestions I have seen. How about Cale Gundy? He resigned his position at Oklahoma in 2022. So he has been out of coaching for 2 years. Resume isn’t that bad

The comments which got him to resign at OU probably have kept and we’ll keep him out of coaching. It is too bad when people are not willing to give others a second chance.

I guess I didn’t see what he said. You are right, sometimes people make bad decisions and people do need to be afforded second chances but these guys are also allowed to be human as well and humans have feelings, thoughts and emotions and some are not going to be popular. Again I don’t know what was said

The reason given seems very minor to me. He read an inappropriate word, I’m assuming the n word, that was on a player’s iPad.

Cale Gundy made a mistake reading aloud what was on the players iPad, there is no doubting that and he stated as much. The man owned it and apologized for it. He received the support of many past minority players through the ordeal that would swear to the character of Cale Gundy. I’m sure he was pissed, and just read what was in front of his eyes. I’m sure the particular player was a repeat offender and unfortunately in that moment of trying to make a point he was probably “seeing red”, tunnel vision kicked in, and the words just flowed.

I can relate to that type of scenario, having been that pissed at students in a previous life and can absolutely see how it could happen to Gundy, whom in my opinion is a better man than I am I…

My advice: There are hundreds of coaches and assistant coaches out there past and present, you don't need to take a guy with baggage that can be used against him during recruiting periods unless he brings some otherworldly talent to the table. Cale Gundy might be a decent coach, but there are quite a few other guys how could be good who don't have that baggage. I don't mind second chances, but given our recent track record with giving guys second chances (Haith, Wilson, and to some degree Konkol & Montgomery come to mind) I don't think we need to try it again just to try it.

That’s pocket change for OSU.
They only spend about $2.5 million on NIL, and they are having issues with money in general at the moment. So, it would likely take a rallying of their $$$ resources to get the buyout done this year. He is supposed to be "untouchable" for another year. My wife and father in law are OSU grads/donors. He even goes to Gundy's "farm" for get together.

He asked me about us getting rid of Wilson at Thanksgiving, so I about Gumby. The answers were actually kinda hard not to smile at considering the big buck facade they have up.

My wife and I do have an interesting house divided lol. TU vs. OsU.... we are still trying to find a plate and shirts haha!
