I know everyone has pretty much wrote this off as a loss, but I got this wierd feeling we might make this game more competitive than most believe. Hear me out on this.

When our defense sells out to stop the run we've been very good on 3rd/4th and short this season. Our run defense gets shredded when we try and support our weak db's in the passing game. I don't think their fullback will get much up the middle on us the biggest challenge is going to be containment on the pitch option. First guy there needs to be after the qb and not worry about the pitch.

Navy is gonna bomb one deep a couple times and we're gonna get burned, no way around that, we just got to focus on the run and try to keep up.

But then again I might need to lay off the Koolaide a bit.

We are approaching this from the wrong angle.. these guys are sailors... when their ship docks in Catoosa on Friday Night we take them to the Casino.. we take them to Night Trips.. get them drunk.. take them to 11th street and get them laid.. no way they are in any shape to beat us on Saturday

I hear where you are coming from Jester. I think we stay within the point spread. Ken N (not even going to attempt to spell his last name) has really got this team rolling with less superior athletes against most teams. The thing that is scary about this Navy team is they are not getting beat up in the trenches against teams that are usually bigger on both sides of the line than they are. While I thought we played pretty well against New Mexico's option, I don't think UNM has nearly the quality of QB or RB options that Navy has. I hope Norwood makes some adjustments. We should see more of Petera Wilson and his speed at ILB to counter the option we'll be seeing. Martin is fine for plugging the gaps for runs up the middle. Mudoh and Linscott will need to have big games on D as well and I expect our safeties to play a bit closer to the LOS and our DBs to be told....2 eyes on that receiver for 2-3 seconds and listen for PASS, if that doesn't come, find the ball. Kragthorpe had the most brilliant approach to this back in the day...scout offense would not have a ball and it became assignment football. LBs will need to beat the blockers too. Have to win the 1v1 battles to be successful against this type of offense.

The problem to all of this is Navy beat Memphis on the road and they were taking the Tigers to the woodshed in the 4th quarter . Mudoh is banged up and the rest of our DB's usually are just hanging on to running backs or receivers getting carried an extra 5 yards. Navy gets more out of their abilities than anyone in the country.

We also need Barrow @ CB. He is our best tackling CB. I still remember his big 3rd down tackle on a swing pass that kept a fullback out of the south end zone earlier this season.

I was impressed with Young's defensive adjustments against New Mexico. Navy is a much better team than New Mexico, but it is an advantage that we've played a team with a similar style this season.

Navy run an old offense and most defense don't see it much anymore. We have to run a 50 defense front because the fullback is the key to the offense. You stop the fullback you stop the offense. This mean we need to play a Nose Tackle. We can play 4 man front but we will have to commit a LB to blitz the A gap. We will need the young Defensive Lineman to get after the QB. This is where our DE need to get after the QB. Our LBs and safety need to clean up the running back on the perimeter. Navy ground game plays into the strength of our defense. We have a chance to win if we go deep on Navy Secondary. Dane should be throwing jump ball to Atkinson, Hobbs and Garrett against Navy small secondary.
