As the automatic qualifier does that mean if we beat shockers we are in as 12 seed as conference champs even if we win no conference tourney games that’s not for sure

No. It means if TU gets the auto qualifier we are predicted as a 12 seed.

seems a bit odd to have a team on the 12 line and then not also have them in the at-large discussion

That’s my point it’s like we are written in pencil not ink and he’s just waiting for any loss by us to erase us from the bracket making us win 4 games that’s crap

It doesn't matter what Lunardi or anyone who tries to predict the bracket thinks. When we got our last at-large, we weren't in anyone's bracket but the committee's.
At least we will be on lunardis 12 line until the completion of the Wichita game or until we lose in the conference tourney when we would drop out completely and pray for an nit or CBi game

If we win Sunday we are solid with NIT auto bid.
Most of us would have been elated to be playing in the NIT when the season started. While a great accomplishment after being picked to finish 10th in the AAC, I am pretty sure most of this board has the highest hopes we are playing on a bigger stage in 2 weeks.

I believe that the NIT gives regular season champs who don’t make the NCAA tournament and auto bid. At least that’s how it was at one time... but I’d much rather just go dancing and not have to worry about it :D

NIT does give auto-bid to regular outright season champs who do not make the NCAA...however, we are not outright yet. I believe, could be wrong, that if it is a split championship the NIT takes the higher seeded team in tourny..so Houston if we end up losing Sunday. If Houston makes NCAA then NIT will take the other Co-champ...so either way I think we locked in NIT no matter what since Houston is locked into NCAA.

Lunardi has Tulsa a 13 seed and Palm has Tulsa a 12 with Cincinnati and Houston only other aac teams in the bracket

At least we are in brackets until Wichita game is over for 3 days anyway

WE are lock for NIT. Our goal, NCAA at 12 seed

Unfortunately we are not... When Harvard and Princeton were co-champs a few years back this was what was said.

"The AQ feature was developed to assure that the conference's regular-season champion - as determined by tiebreak determined by the conference - would be protected to participate in the postseason - either the NCAA or NIT," said NIT president Greg Shaheen, via an email from Ivy League spokesman Scottie Rodgers.

He said if one made it to the NCAA it did not guarantee the other would be in the NIT. They take the team that wins the tie-breaker by conference rules as the "true" champion. We better win to get the auto-lock, otherwise we lose out of tiebreaker and could be left out of NIT as well (we wont our resume is too good but that is a possibility).

Every NIT prediction bracket I have seen this season has Tulsa in the NIT. Usually a three seed.

It would take a monumental amount of upsets in the lower conferences to jeopardize Tulsa's chances to not get invited additionally if co champs are invited then we are already in the NIT.

Beat Wichita St on Sunday and we are in the NCAA Tourney

Time will tell

GO TU!!!

Even that fabled website TheBarkingCrow.com now has us in the NIT as a 5 seed.

That being said, I don’t think the NCAAs will leave us out if we win the outright championship. Sunday is huge.

I was just speaking of the "lock" - unfortunately we are not locked. Co-champions do not get a guarantee auto-bid into the NIT. However, like you said I do not see anyway we do not make the NIT off merit alone. We are in the NIT but not because of the auto-bid, but merit. If we win Sunday then we will have the auto bid since we will be outright champions, others due to tie breaker rules we would be on the outs of the auto-bid.

There has only been one league champion of a Top 7 conference not make the NCAA in history I believe.

Winning Sunday is imperative if we have NCAA tournament ambitions. Without a win Sunday we have to win the conference tournament. Even with a win Sunday I don’t think we’re done, I think we need to make the tourney finals and that’s where the importance of Sunday really comes. With tiebreakers we’ll end up second or, more likely, third seed if we lose Sunday. If we can get that one seed we won’t see Houston or Cincinnati until the finals.

Also when looking at mock brackets remember that the lowest at-large selections will be 11 seeds, anything 12 or higher is a placement for a conference tournament winner.

Washington, I think several years ago..........
Aah. Found it. 2011-12.

Looking back at that, Washington really should have been in. They didn't lose to one team all season that had fewer than 21 wins.
