Yeah... sure...
Luke Skipper is the difference. Right.
I understand the moans about it... but this ship was going down regardless of who was behind center. Tulsa's defense is the worst in D1 --- and worst I've ever seen in my entire life at the D1 level.

I agree on the defense, but you honestly think President wasn't a problem at QB?Yeah... sure...

Thank you sir!10-14 for 256 and a TD.
Our defense is the worst I have ever seen, at least our offense can start improving nowOriginal tulsa fan making a fool of himself once again? No one is saying QB wasn't the only problem...but it's been a HUGE problem. You really need to stfu and go back to your dungeons and dragons life as a virgin.
Thank you sir!
The bad part its still getting worse.Yeah... sure...

I have never understood the mentality that views this fact as an excuse or a positive. He is paid millions for the very fact that he purports to be in a unique cadre of highly compensated individuals whose sole job it is to win all of the games that are winnable with the available talent. When they don’t, they try to whine that it could have been worse without them. Bunk. We could be 1-5 with TUGrade06 out there ...We could be very well 3-3 as opposed to 1-5.
It’s right there with losing to an FCS team or to SMU or Houston at home by greater than 50Getting pummeled by Tulane is as unacceptable as it gets IMO.
The one thing Skipper does need to do is get in the weight room and get stronger. Especially his legs. Skipper isn't nearly strong enough yet. The defensive players were able to knock him around pretty easy.
Defense needs to as well. We had their QB dead to rights yesterday in the backfield and the defenseman simply lunged and slid down him, allowing him to complete the pass with little resistance.
It think it's something else. Because of injuries, because of game planning for an option team, and because the defense wasn't performing up to par, they were rotating new guys into the defense and new plans. The new guys are younger,(not as built) not as skilled, and not as adept at the new plans the coaches were throwing in. The coaches partly because of the players they recruited, partly because they had to go with the youth, partly because of their coaching ability, and partly because they aren't good at coaching as much on the fly, saw the defense fall apart at the seems due to injuries and player replacements. It's not just something that can be fixed in the weight room.Agreed. Same thing happened in Navy and NM games too. Their QB just ran right over our arm tackles.
Hard to explain because in the OSU and Louisiana games I thought the tackling was good just couldn’t stop the passing attack.
They go hand in hand IMO. The QB couldn’t keep drives alive passing the ball. Teams not respecting the pass stacked the box and dared us to pass. We saw more 3 and outs and the defense was on the field more. Tulane had three possessions and TDs before 7 minutes had elapsed. Had we been able to sustain just 1 drive, that’s not the case. The defense is not good...the way to lessen that is for the offense to sustain more drives so the D isn’t on the field.Yeah... sure...

There’s a zero percent chance that I’m excusing the product on the field or the results. Quite the contrary. I was replying to Jester in that he’s stuck with coaches during bad seasons. There’s no excuse for the product on the field. Losing close games is much more palatable than getting blown out by the likes of Tulane.I have never understood the mentality that views this fact as an excuse or a positive. TW quote by Monty sounds promising for making Skipper the starter next game against Houston.
“I thought he played pretty well the rest of the game,” Montgomery said. “He’s got to clean up some little mistakes that cost us. Those are things that from a maturity standpoint we’ve got to grow from and get better.”
If that happens I will be leaving the stadium. It would be pure negligence and stubbornness at that point and I've seen that movie before.
Before we get too, too excited for the Skipper train, keep in mind that he had 1 big play but otherwise 39 yards in 4 drives before the game was completely out of hand. So while Tulane was still interested, he was kept mostly in check. He's a young guy, it's going to take a while.
The WRs seemed engaged in the game which is a big difference.I'm really afraid that we'll see President back out there on Saturday... I really hope I'm wrong though.
The offense looked completely different under skipper - the way it's supposed to look.

Coaches do unusual things in these situations. For example, Rader continued to start Gus week after week even though the Matheson kid had to come in and bail him out time and time again.
Gus survived 14 yrs in the NFL... where is Mathewson?

The other teams entire number skilled offensive players have been just walking or running right thru the Tulsa defensive arm tackles as a whole. Tulsa defense has no clue about tackling fundamentals mostly. That is on the defensive coaches.Defense needs to as well. Skipper is also just a freshman. He's going to get better, much better I think. If Skipper's performance were held over the course of the year - he would be the #1 QB in the FBS for passing efficiency at 221.44. #2 would be Baker Mayfield at 214.1. (I know that's a big if, but the point is he had a solid passing game)
