Does anyone, besides me, remember Larry doing something similar to Westbrook? As the refs would turn and run up court, Larry would sometimes forget ?? to dribble.

Seems like he was from the same HS as Eldridge Webb, but a year or two after him. He was a really good defensive player and a reliable, if not prolific, scorer.

Glad to see your post....Haven't seen one in a while...

Yes, they were both from Boys HS in Brooklyn, as were two other TU
greats, Rob Washington and Steve Bracey.....Cheatham and Washington
were in the class behind Webb.....As was, by the way, Bobby "Bingo"
Smith from Memphis......

The 1965-66 team had a starting line up that would rank with some of
our most talented, only ended up with a 19-8 record....That shows
among other things, how talented the MoValley was at that time--This
was Webb's only complete season at TU, due to academics:
Webb...18 ppg....(and a Gizillion assists)
Rob Washington 15 ppg 8.8 Reb
Bobby 'Bingo' Smith 15 ppg 10.4 Reb
Doug Robinson 10.7 ppg 8.9 Reb
Mike Marrs......6.ppg

That team consisted of two sophomores (B. Smith and Washington)
and three juniors (Webb, Marrs, and Robinson)

I have always felt, that while appreciated as one of our best, we have
sometimes over looked Rob Washington when talking about our all
time greats....I think he would have started on any TU team I can
remember, and boy, could we use him now! I think that @Bill Lowery
remembers him, as well.....

P.S.
Can you believe we recruited two forwards like Bobby Smith and Rob
Washington in the same class? Really two of our all time bests......

Senior, I remember all those guys well. Washington, Robinson and Cheatham would just as soon knock you out as not. Practices were war and fights were not uncommon. Bingo was a really nice guy—used to put his arm around me at practice and asked if any scouts were coming to watch him. Ha.

They were really talented and your right—the Valley was so strong. I’d take most of those guys on my team today.

Robinson was indeed a tough guy on the court. If memory serves (and it doesn't always) he was older and had done military service. Washington could really score, although he was somewhat limited by the fact that when he moved with his back to the basket it was always to his left (he was a strictly right-handed player). Marrs was cool as ice. I remember one game at the fairgrounds, although I can't remember the opponent, when he made two free-throws with time expired for a one-point TU win. And of course Webb was Webb.

He was drafted by Cleveland of the NBA in the 1969 supplemental draft...He
played 11 seasons and is the Ohio sports HOF.....

He had a rainbow jumper that you would swear while it was in the air, that it
would never get there.....

Yes, Bobby loved the baseline deep corner sky ball, and the ones he missed Rob cleaned up! Best forward tandem in TU history. At least according to me.

I think Bingo's jersey is going to be retired this year at one of the games....

Bingo smith. Every outside rainbow shot had fans screaming "Binnnnngo". Remember first year NO Jazz playing Cleveland in New Orleans. They were in small Loyola of NO arena. I yelled the bingo chant after a long jumper. Bingo turned towards me with a huge TU smile
