1st off... We are TULSA! Stick to our identity, we have a very strong offensive line , if they can give Skipper/ President time to throw and give big holes for our running backs, we have a great shot at winning this.. need to have more Tds then field goals.
2nd.. Contain the OSU offense, more then likely, they are going to put up some points , but if our defense can step up and give Mason Rudolph a hard time and make them earn every yard and stay off the field, we REALLY have a shot at winning this .
3rd... Play to win! One thing I love about Montgomery is no matter who it is, play to win, whether it's Oklahoma Panhandle State or Alabama, we are here to win. We are not little ol Tulsa anymore.
Go TU!

4). Win turnover battle. We aren't winning in Stillwater against a top ten team without turning them over.

OSU weakness on defense is up the middle. Establishing a running game and then going over the top with play action will be the key imo.

On defense we need to be able to stop the run with our front 6. If we're forced to bring a safety up their receivers will likely have their way with our corners. I'm not confident our corners can cover Washington, Ateman and McClesky without help over the top. Those guys are pretty darn good :)

I agree lawpoke, I also agree OSU is going to probably put up some points as well, and couldn't agree with you more.about the running game plan, could very well be a track meet. I do think our defense will be good enough not to stop OSU , but I think we will be able to slow them down, I think with guys like Brubaker, Shindilar ( probably spelled wrong) Petera Wilson, Craig Suits and Keanu Hill back,.we.will see a much better defense ( possibly the best in the American)

Also what do you think about the cowboy secondary? You think out receivers can take advantage?

I'm not worried about our front 6 against their OLine and backs. My concern is our back 5 against their receivers. That's a mismatch. We must get QB pressure with our front four. If we're forced to bring a 5th rusher to get pressure our corners are in for a long night. Same goes for if we have to respect play action. This matchup is on our front 6 imo.

Yes....as long as Skipper performs well. Our offensive schemes are among the best in college football. We will have opportunities. It's up to a young QB to spot them and take advantage. You never know how a young QB on the road in his first start will react. We must take care of the ball.

I think you put Whitfield and Hill on their top 2 receivers , i just don't know what other person in the secondary that will be up for the challenge, possibly Jordan Mitchell or Robinson?

Reggie Robinson is a true athlete and closes very well. He will have opportunity to make plays. If Keanu isback to 100%, it'll be fun to watch him against Washington or anyone else on his side of the field.

and OSU has a recent history of struggling against the Baylor offense

A successful weekend in Stillwater..

A beer and a slice at the original hideaway..
A beer and some chili Cheese fries at Joes..
A cold beer and a two step at the 'weed..

And watching the game on tv without having to actually set foot in Lewis Field.

You take the New England Patriots path to defending the WRs. You put your best CB on WR #2 and leave him 1 v 1 and then you bracket Washington with a CB and safety. Unfortunately in college, most DBs take a side and match-up with the outside receivers and no "this is my man" type of defense

Places I don't go for football games:

3... Norman
2... Fayetteville
1... Stillwater

I would rather travel to either coast than make the short trip to any of those places...
We have to 100% get turnovers, win on special teams with hidden yardage and field position, and get touchdowns instead of field goals while in the red zone. It has always been a historically hard place to play for us for some reason on top of the outright corrupt referees. Every year is a new experience but I absolutely believe playing at OSU last year prepared us greatly for this game. I will be watching very closely the body language of the team before the game. If there is trash talk and tussling, that's a great sign our boys are ready to take on the world.

I think we forget how well our defense played against them until right before half when we threw 2 int , we really played well against them. If we play with that type of performance the entire game, I really like our chances. #ReleaseTheBrubaker

Seems that OSU is making Tulsa out to be an " easy win". Thursday night, no respect for TU, all of the cowboy Kool aid in the world, a ticked off TU team with a huge chip on their shoulder to prove the country wrong.. perfect ingredients for a TU upset

The line is 17 but after the slow start OSU got off to last season I think there is some trepidation on their early season games.

I think if the line is correct and we go down by 17 we'll have a puzzled coaching staff and team. Lots of things point to that being fair and those casinos didn't get built setting bad lines and making bad bets. I've just gotta believe that we're better than a 17 point dog to those (_________).

I don't see that happening, I think we will be ready to play.

I'm with you.
You got a chance to knock off a top 10 team, a coach who was fired from there ( Bill Young) the media saying you don't have a chance, you know they have not done well against our type of offense, and you have a team more then likely looking past you, if that doesn't get you ready, nothing will.

My opinion is that this game is determined by what the character of this year's version of the Tulsa team is. Tulsa has nothing to lose, if the players believe that they belong on the same field with the Cowboys, Tulsa has a great chance to win this game (I believe they will win.) It is up to the seniors and other leaders on this team to take charge. I also believe that Mike Gundy does not do a good job of preparing his teams for dealing with being a top ten team, just look at the recent history.

Totally agree, that's why I am glad they are really drinking the cowboy Kool aid and talking about a big 12 champion, I believe our defense will also be up to the challenge, Brubaker and Kolton are beasts to deal with for any offensive line!

I agree, don't forget Smith, it is also is senior year and he has fought injury over the last couple of years and has not been at full strength.

Very true, I like our whole defensive line, I really like our chances if Keanu Hill and Robinson can slow down Washington
I've said this somewhere else...you can't play sides at CB anymore because teams will devise schemes to beat your weakest DB by putting their best WR in a place to be matched up with him. Play matchup. Your #1 DB goes against the #2 WR and you tell him to lock him down. Bracket Washington with #2 CB underneath and a fly safety over the top. Hope your FS can match-up with any extra WR out there. Washington isn't a huge WR like Dez Bryant and Justin Blackmon are/were. Washington is 6', so if you think Thomas can lock him down, you do it, otherwise you go with the strategy above. I do not like us playing zone against that offense. Too much talent...bring pressure and make Rudolph beat you with contested passes instead of throwing to an empty spot in a zone.

Go ahead and keep beating the "no respect" drum. Games in the series have historically been close. Reading this board, it seems like the Cowboys are the 17-point dog. Most OSU fans know Montgomery is a fine coach and great offensive strategist. It's been amazing how quickly he transformed the GHurricane program into a very competitive team. If some of you can make it to BPS for the game and overlook the overwhelming smell (geez), and the crooked refs.....you'll probably see a good game. I'm fairly confident the Cowboy team won't be using the "over-looked" excuse....they'll be ready.

Washington plays much bigger than he is and has tremendous ball skills. If you don't bracket him over the top with a safety you're asking for trouble imo. The problem OSU opponents have is that the other receivers (Ateman, McClesky, Johnson, etc) are almost as good as Washington. If Rudolph has time they're an extremely difficult matchup for any secondary. OSU has by far the best receiving group TU will face this year. Pass rush is the key. TU won't be able to cover them for an extended period of time.

As much as I hate it 3 TDs is probably realistic. We'll be competitive for a while, but I think OSU is legit this year. We're gonna be good but I'm not getting my hopes up. My heart has been broken too many times in Norman and Stillwater.

Please, for the love of God, let me be wrong.

I have to agree with you on these points. We will be better in coverage this year and they will be heavily challenged right out of the gate by what is one of the best receiving corps in the country. I believe that we will make it difficult for Rudolph to find empty areas in the zone to throw to and will be rushed hard by our defensive front.

Many times the Cowboys overlook us, but I don't think this will be one of those years. They will come in thinking that they are going to win and we will do the same. Can't play the game and think that you've lost before it's been played. They may come away with a W but it won't be the cakewalk that the prognosticators think it will be.

I may come off as a sunshine pumper

I may come off as a sunshine pumper , but I'm sticking to my prediction of a Tulsa win in Stillwater. They may put up some points , but you have to remember we have a very strong offensive line ( the same one that gave OU nightmares as freshman) only now, they are juniors. We have a good receivers, and like I said, I think our D-Link won't be a problem, and I think Keanu and Robinson can play with those receivers . My prediction TU 38. OSU 31

Gundy certainly doesn't have a history of overlooking TU. He's 2-0 against TU with an average margin of victory of 31 points. If TU wins the game it will be because they are the better team. The "we overlooked them" is a weak excuse for a loss imo. I expect both teams to be ready.

2-0 against "I can't beat a P-5 team unless they shoot themselves in the foot" Todd Graham.

I think it will be a chess match, I feel like our offense is better then their defense and vise versa, I think both coaches will try to keep the other offense off the field. It will come down to who's defense will step up and SLOW DOWN the other teams offense.

I think this is true for TU (TU will try to run the ball and control the clock imo) but not necessarily for OSU. OSU will try to go up and down the field as fast as they can and put scoreboard pressure on TU. If successful this would tend to take away TU's running game and put pressure on Skipper to throw the ball down the field.
