Kevin Wilson on his defense, TW

KDubs enthusiasm and excitement for his defense, and really both sides of the ball, is not very well disguised. I'm certainly excited and enthused over the coming season.

But tempering the excitement a little is 2024. I don't mean to rain on our 2023 parade, but there were about a dozen grad students & seniors on Offense (including 4 of 5 prospective starters on the O-line) that we will lose. In today's article on the Defense, I counted 10 Grads and 4 Seniors on the 2-deep, mostly starters.

".......and we're gonna win". I have no doubt, but we're really going to have to win big. That is, at least 8 wins or 9 would be perfect and a Conf. Championship &/or knocking off a Wash or OU would be spectacular . The buzz around TU Football from this many wins will help immensely in recruiting, along with the hard work our staff puts in and their ability to identify youngsters that will develop with the right coaching.

Oh well, have faith in our recruiting and just enjoy what is coming this season. That's what I'm going to do.

I don’t have subscription to Tulsa World could someone post the article
TW doesn't want their articles on our site. But just wait on @Larry Lewis' articles on the defense that are coming up, which will have much more info. The quotes used in this TW article are from a meeting with Wilson that we requested.

As most of you know, Larry has sat down with the head coach for an exclusive interview after spring ball for the past 8 years or so, which we use for our summer position breakdown series. Just before our meeting with Wilson, TU informed us they were including two more people in our interview -- the TW intern and a VYPE editor. A little disappointing we didn't get our usual exclusive interview, but not much we could do.

I expected Tai Newhouse to start at DE. He has fallen down the depth chart a few notches I guess. Maybe he is not fully recovered from the injury?

Your interview, and they get the scoop because they have nothing else to publish.😔 Looking forward to Larry's position breakdown's.

Probably weird for Larry to have his TW intern sitting in. And jumping ahead with an article:)

I’ll take Larry’s analysis on Tulsa football and basketball over anyone from the TW or anywhere else. He’s the best. He has a thorough knowledge of both sports at Tulsa, going way back. His memory on these 2 subjects is amazing. I always look forward to reading his articles and learn something new each time. We’re fortunate to have his expertise at ITS.

The article was ok, and appreciated... However, though I'm sure Larry's article will include the same info he will add a lot of meat added to the bones that the TW threw out. It will be well worth the the wait to get Larry's insight.

It is what it is. Once the other two guys were added, it was no longer just our interview, even though it was set up because we requested it. I was just disappointed that we didn't get an exclusive interview as usual, which is what we requested.

This really irritates me. I mean, it feels like this site is being treated kind of second class. We have seen this before.

At some point, I hope that they understand that the people on here are some of the biggest, most interested fans TU has. There are people who donate more bucks and spread the gospel of TU sports, more than the TW readership combined.

No doubt I would, and plan to, give up my TW subscription long before my ITS one.

The TW was only good for it's crossword puzzles...now I can get those anywhere I want online...I broke it off with TW about 15 years ago. Haven't looked back. I was a spiteful reader lol. I hated the way they covered TU and the minute I could cut ties I did. This subscriber was 100% lost because of how they treated TU.

I miss the Tribune!

Knew several folks who worked at the Tribune like John Drummond and Jay Cronley. The demise of an evening paper was not limited to Tulsa.
I don't think it was the evening paper aspect as much as the 2 major newspapers in a town the size of Tulsa. I delivered papers as a kid and M-F it was an afternoon delivery. Only the Saturday/Sunday papers were AM deliveries. But we didn't have 2.

The evening papers also started to disappear with the advent of cable news stations and the 24-hr news cycle. Why get a paper to tell me the news that happened yesterday when I can get that news on the AM morning news stations getting ready for work or I can get the scores from the perpetual ESPN ticker. And the Tulsa World already had it in print.

Now papers are dying b/c of the 24 hr news cycle and the rush to report it first, which is never going to be on a printed sheet.

All I know is that this is what we all will be like celebrating after Kevin Wilson’s first big win at TU

My HS paper deliverer hit my front porch every time from his bike. Loved seeing Hoover students sorting stacks of papers to deliver.

I helped a friend delivery the World for awhile. Early mornings waiting for the papers to be dropped off at 15th and Florence, then we had to fold them up for delivery. Had a large supply of rubber bands to wrap around each one to keep it folded for delivery.

I rarely was able to just toss them. Very specific instructions on delivery for many customers. Some back door, some drop in the mail slot or mail box, a few put weather proof boxes on their porches. Most I had to drop between the screen door and primary door (living in MA most people had screen doors to allow the breeze in since almost no one had central HVAC and only small window units if they had AC at all). Of course there were a few houses that had psycho dogs...but the worst was this one lady's cat who tried to make me Nick Fury every time it saw me...which was every day.
