Tulsa personnel news: Guard Keyshawn Embery-Simpson and forward Josh Earley did not meet the NCAA’s academic requirements this past semester and will miss the remainder of the season.

Who is Josh Early?

I don’t recall him playing

Cin coach got fired

Very disappointing
Shouldn’t happen with all of the academic support at TU
I worry about kids that can’t make it academically but hope for the best

There is absolutely no excuse for lack of academic progress at TU after your first year as an athlete. By this point, you’ve proven you can do the work and the support staff is amongst the best in the AAC. You have to want to fail.

I once got an A

For a paper entitled

“Ten Margaritas”

I remember some

stupid easy classes that

anyone could pass
I don’t know how to haiku, but I did take a class called Work, Sport and Leisure one time.

My kids have electives like Understanding Movies, The Art of Acting and Survey of Dance History so those easy classes are still out there.

Athletes can’t load up on classes like that like they used to though. Back in the day as long as you passed a certain number of hours you were good no matter what the classes were. When the academic progress came in it changed the game. I’m not excusing them as they should be able to apply themselves and get it done but it’s not like the days of intermediate basket weaving.

My undergraduate degree is from the University of Pittsburgh. I am proud to say that I have 5 credit hours in Squash, the Racquet game, not the vegetable. I also took a course in Jazz 80 (Pitt's numbering system equivalent to 101). I also have 14 credit hours of Spanish. I can speak it but I do better reading it. Finally, I took an English course in Poetry. I did better with the Squash courses. I was a walk-on with the track team. We received 1 credit per semester for phys ed for being on the team. There were no academic advisors.

Over 50 years later I still have my squash racquet. The only place in Tulsa with a squash court was the old Tulsa Club. It is a hotel now.

Second finally, my late wife's Master's Degree was from OU. Three of her Master's Credits were a course in golf. She could really hit nice straight drives. She and I played in some scrambles and we often used her drives from the women's tees.

Earley still on the bench in casual team garb.
Don't see KES anywhere.
