Brutal. Higgins is one of the very best in the college game too.
I'm OK with any of the teams winning outside of UNC and their paper class regime...It is funny that Steve Robinson will forever be sitting next to Roy Williams because of his hasty decision to leave TU instead of sticking around an extra year. I know a lot of people are put off by Frank Martin's gruffness and the tough way he coaches kids and gets in their faces, but hell, these kids need someone to tell them they're doing things wrong and if they continue to do them the wrong way, someone needs to get in their grill. Kids are soft these days... And I like Altman and Few too...they seem to do things the right way.this is why we are happy UK is not *again in the final 4
I assume most TU fans are rooting for GZ. TU was the darling outsider long before GZ but Mark Few stayed and Hollywood did not. Still important for a team that plays in a "mid major" league to win it all.
None of them would be eligible a second year because of that. NCAA needs to go back and reinstitute the 5-8 rule and allow schools hardship waivers. You can grant an exception if the school can prove they went to class and did their diligence. Our situation between Wojcik and Manning would have warranted an exception and then again last year when you literally have 9 guys graduate. This UNC/UK 1 and done classes are ridiculous and the very antithesis of college athletics. After watching (& listening to) Kentucky fans during this year's tournament, I'm not surprised. You could hear them boo at almost every foul called against their team. The crowd shots were Arkansas backwoods level. My son & I actually discussed how low rent their crowd looked & sounded during the UNC-Kentucky game.
It was sad to think their world seems to revolve around whether Calipari can talk a couple of 18 or 19 year olds to hang around Lexington for 8 months, until they can enter the NBA draft. Rumor is Anthony Davis said he didn't even go to class his (only) spring semester. The idea of student athlete is more theory than reality with Kentucky basketball. Their fans don't appear to mind.

Nope. Before Few got there their contribution to the game of basketball was John Stockton. If I recall correctly, they have only made the Elite Eight 1 other time.Gonzaga has been a big time program for a number of years now but what I didn't realize until this past weekend though is this is their first Final 4. They get talked about so much I thought for sure they had been to at least one in school history (or under Mark Few).
Monson jumped to the first power conference school that offered....Minnesota. And he tanked. And had a scandal. Where is Monson now?Don Monson got things started at GZ. Few has taken them to another level
Yes I know but he actually began the turn around up there. My comments were not meant to lighten Few's accomplishmentsMonson jumped to the first power conference school that offered....Minnesota. And he tanked. And had a scandal. Where is Monson now?
I get it...my point was more the first quick jump to a power conference and how it doesn't work out. Tubby didn't jump, turned it into a nat'l championship. Robinson did...banished to Roy Williams right hand side as an assistant. Buzz Peterson did...scout for the Charlotte Hornets (basically a job given him by Michael Jordan). Even Self turned down the 1st big offer (Nebraska). Few stayed. It is going to pay off for him. Marshall has stayed....going to pay off. Archie Miller stayed at Dayton and turned down plenty of other offers...lands the Indiana job. Just goes to show that the next big opportunity isn't always the best or right opportunity.Yes I know but he actually began the turn around up there. They're like the spoiled rich kid who's always had everything done for him, going somewhere he has to do his part and freaking out. Welcome to the real world Kentucky. It's tough out there.
