TULSA, Okla. -- With his headphones playing the tunes of his choice, Keevan Lucas winces in pain. Asthe bright afternoon sun glares in his peripheral vision, Lucas makes the first trip back down the steps on the east side of H.A. Chapman Stadium.

One down, nineteen more to go.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Tulsa Golden Hurricane begin their second official bowl practice leading up to the Camping World Independence Bowl on December 26th in Shreveport, LA. Lucas won't be playing. It has been that way since he suffered a torn patellar tendon in his right knee during October 3rd's loss against Houston.

How bad was it?

"It kind of shocked us all," junior quarterback Dane Evans said following the game. "He's our Superman. The guy's been through a lot."

At 14 years old, Keevan lost the two most important people in his life. His mother died unexpectedly of a brain aneurysm. Lucas's grandmother followed three days later from a heart attack and stroke. Just as he did in that most difficult time, Keevan turns to his religious faith as a source of inspiration during this lost season.

"The biggest thing during this is trying to stay positive," explained Lucas. "God has really been speaking to me to keep me grounded."

He may be grounded. But it hasn't taken away from Keevan's lofty career expectations. The junior wide receiver intends to finish his college career as the program's most prolific receiver.

"God, man, he's truly living inside me," Lucas said.

"I truly believe that everything happens for a reason and I know that his purpose is the one that will prevail. So I'm just trusting in him and everything else will take care of itself."
