Kansas City women’s game thread

Two threes so far for Perriman.

11-5, TU.

End of quarter 1 - 27-13, TU.

Perriman has 12 points with 3 three pointers.

Halftime - 47-30, TU

Also, Elise Hill’s halfcourt shot at the buzzer was great but she didn’t release it in time.

KC shooting around 50% for the third quarter.

TU leads 67-49 end of third quarter.

Big problems with the ESPN+ feed from campus with lots of pixelation this second half. Must be the UFOs.

Not sure I would go with great….at least yet. Our NET is 187. KC is 1-8 and around 330. They are really really bad
I think she is a very good coach. Gets the most out of her players. She is starting to develop depth. Early season injuries (Periman especially, Clack and Mathew’s) plus the transfer of her best player Poindexter caused a slow start to the season. It won’t be a championship team like last year but expect to be in the top half of the conference.

I would agree with a very good coach. She needs to make an NCAA tournament before she can move to the “great” tier imo

You have to replace a portal- out player with a portal-in player of similar ability to maintain program improvement. Or really get lucky with freshmen. Not sure how much NIL is involved in women's basketball?

And our loss to the portal Temira Poindexter has seen her stats decline this year. It remains to be seen if that was a good choice for her or not.

Shooting percentages are up across the board. Her minutes and number of shots taken are down which I assume comes from playing with better players. KState is a top 15 team.

As far as TU women’s basketball and NIL, I can’t imagine there’s much money there if any.

Points and minutes are down but she is on a winning team which might have been her goal.

Yeah she's shooting a better percentage, and her defense is maintained by her steals & blocks staying in range or going up. She is playing with better rebounders and better players. She is probably being a little more selective with her shots, and passing more. She likely has the ball less and in less demanding situations that she creates, so her turnovers went down.

Temira would have been more successful if she stayed at TU. She’s not winding up in the WNBA by going to KSU.

Yeah, you certainly need to take a look at all the stats, not just PPG. She's taking fewer shots as KState is a way deeper team than TU has been, which is also why she's not being run into the ground early season and should be fresher for February and March when things matter.

On the last 2 games for the TU women, I think things are changing for the better. Crawford is not being relied on to shoulder the load for TU as you see more players stepping up and taking on some of the scoring responsibility. I'm hoping this balance can be maintained against better competition. Still have no idea how we lost to ORU. There are some bad losses on the women's side early. Shooting touch seems to be getting better too. Everyone being off in the early part of the season was a head scratcher.

She is not going to the WNBA and probably wouldn't even if she stayed here. As good as she was for us, she would be a SG or SF in the WNBA scheme and she doesn't have the quickness or handle to play either of those positions and I suspect she would struggle to guard players in the WNBA. For instance, I think she would get eaten alive trying to guard Breanna Stewart or Elena Delledova. However, I do think she is likely destined to play some pro-ball in Europe (I don't think the WNBA has a G-League equivalent yet but could see it happening in the future).

She wanted an opportunity to play in the NCAA tourney. Something she had not been close to in her three years at TU. KState is going to be in the tourney and will likely be a top 4 regional seed. I would call that a success.

BLA is correct. She’s not an WNBA player imo. Practicing against better players and playing against better players will make her better but I still believe she’s lacking athletically when it comes to the WNBA. Wishing her all the luck. She gave TU three good years. Don’t blame her for wanting to play in the tourney her final year or even taking some NIL money. She will likely never make significant money again playing basketball
