I'm so pumped 4 this game Wednesday night vs. Them BearCats.
Another 'Ol Valley Rival
Hasn't played in Tulsa since the 60's?

Huge NCAA implications w/ @ least a share
of the Regular Season Conference Championship on the line
This late in the Season,
When's the last time TU has played a Home Game this Big?

MayB when Swanson made that "THREE" @ the end of the game
2 beat Fresno & tie for the WAC Regular Season Title in '03?
(Tulsa had one last game @ Nevada & won it)

Or was it when Tulsa Hosted the WAC Tourney @ home in '03?
Tulsa ended up being Top Seed in WAC Tourney, held @ the Don Ray
(Interestingly, SMU was the #2 seed that year)
TU Won the WAC Tourney Title Too, beating Nevada in the finals.

I bought 2 more tix's, I got 2 already, & got 4 going.

This game is HUGE
We Need a PACKED house
We need it LOUD
We need 2 Have FAITH

Bring it on!!!!

Go TU

I think the last time we played them in Tulsa was in the Fairgrounds Pavilion.

One of the great memories
Was the cigarette/cigar smoke cloud
that hovered over the court during the 2nd half

Some great games there....
--OT game vs eventually Final 4 Memphis team
TU lost, game decided MVC champ
--Tim Carson "bombs" as Tulsa hits the 100pt mark w/ & a 2pt win over Purdue.
--Beat Cincinnati in '72, had to go OT 2 do so
--Steve Bracey scores like 20 of the last 24 points
& TU overcomes a 20+ Pt deficit 2 beat Drake
--Beat a Top 5 Ranked Louisville team in '75
(I think Ken Hayes last yr?)
--How about when TU beat the Hawg Triplets
--1st ever meeting between ORU (Elite 8 team) & TU
@ the end of the season, TU hoping 4 an NIT bid,
8 pts down under 2 minutes left TU rallies & wins

A little TU Trivia....
Only TU player 2 play on a NBA Champ team?
Steve Bracey, 1976 Golden State team

It was important to wear a hat at the Fairgrounds Pavilion - Pigeons!

Just hope the streets are cleared off. We need this to be a home game and crowd and not just a neutral site atmosphere.

Before that, TU played in the National Guard Armory at the Fairgrounds. My junior high team practiced there in the 60's. The Pavilion was a palace compared to the Armory. But in the Armory days, TU basketball was a total non-factor.

I've actually had a chance to be in both of those "venues" the pavilion is a dump currently. The armory is being used as storage for the fairground's catering company. That place would be so odd to play in. I knew that we used to play there when I got to go in and it reminded me of playing in a jail. Tons of little cell - like rooms with walkways on both sides.

Hard to believe those used to be the best MBB venues in town. Now we are oveflowing with great venues. BOK, Mabee Center, Reynolds Center even the Assembly Center isn't too bad. Then we have several venues in the suburbs that are also outstanding including the one at Union HS. Skiatook HS has one just about as nice that I've been in. Bixby's nice arena -----------on and on.

Didnt the 66ers play at the pavilion at one time?

It seemed nice when I went to the ToC there a few years back when Clarke and Parker and Page were all on teams playing in that tournament (I believe Parker was a freshman that year).

The UMAC is nicer and a better venue than what a lot of D1 teams use. I understand capacity isn't what would meet a D1 schools standards, but it is a great venue.

Last time I was in the Pavillion was for an indoor soccer game about 20 yrs ago. It was a dump.

Convention Center...remember going to TU games there but it was unspectacular. It was much more fun going to Talons games there and wondering if any parts of the ceiling were going to rain down on the field after the ball hit it.

I loved the convention center, but the DonRey definitely s***s on it. Hard. The convention center was just fun because of how good we were... The games against Fresno were amazing (even though we lost)... One of the best performances of a basketball player I have ever seen. Alexander could truly take over games from the 2G position. A rarity these days in college basketball.

One my favorite memories is watching CU coach Ed Jucker chew on towels during the games there.

TU had some epic WAC games in the convention center, most notably the Utah game where Andre Miller hit a game winning runner in the lane, in the closing seconds. This was the same game where TU retired Seals jersey, while he was still playing, granted it was the final home game of his career.

The only advantage the Convention Center offered the over DonRey was parking. We used to park for free in one of the parking garages connected to the convention center. A nice warm and dry walk across the skybridge to the game. Getting out the garage and onto the expressways was also easier.

Maybe someday The Convention Center will no longer hold a single advantage over the DonRey.

Great memory Texcane I know Micheal Doleac was on that team and I think it was after the graduation of Keith Van Horn, I just remember Miller hitting that jumper and thinking wow I thought he would give it up to Doleac. Heart breaking loss. Who knew that Miller would lead his team to the NCAA Final only to lose to Tubby's Kentucky team. Miller has had a very good career as a 16 year NBA veteran. Saturday night games in the Convention Center had a lot of electricity as I remember.

GO TU!!!!

Hanno Mottola was also on that team and he was pretty good as well. That Utah team was freaking loaded and no one realized it until after because of all the success those players had in the NBA. No one talked about Miller coming into that game and heck,he might still be on an NBA roster right now. And yet that game was nip and tuck and tight the whole way. What does that tell you about how good TU was.

Rippin, the games you mentioned were in the Don Rey. I am not sure Courtney Alexander played a game for Fresno when we were still at the Convention Center. Fresno's big player at the time was Chris Herren. Speaking of, there's a 10 minute YouTube segment of Herren speaking at Tarkanian's memorial last weekend in Vegas. It's really powerful and moving.
