From UConn media release...

STORRS, Conn. – Freezing temperatures in the Northeast give the UConn men’s basketball team a perfect excuse to head to Tulsa for a midweek matchup against the Golden Hurricane on Wednesday night in the first road tilt of the American Athletic Conference season.

The Huskies (7-6, 0-1 American), coming off a 72-62 loss to No. 8 Wichita State on Saturday at the XL Center, begin their regular league schedule this week with games against Tulsa (Jan. 3) and ECU (Jan. 6).

Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. ET on Wednesday night at the Reynolds Center, live on ESPNews and the UConn/IMG Radio Network. UConn looks to snap a three-game losing streak, which began on Dec. 21 against No. 18 Arizona.

Junior guard Jalen Adams shined against the Shockers, accounting for 18 points, five rebounds, six assists and four steals in the loss. Sophomore guard Christian Vital added 17 points and four steals in 31 minutes off the bench.

Three-point shooting was the difference against Wichita State, as a tightly-played game turned in the Shockers’ favor late after the visitor sunk 12-of-25 shots from long range to UConn’s 3-of-16.

Adams continues to lead the team in scoring with 18.2 points per game, while redshirt junior Terry Larrier averages a team-high 5.1 rebounds. Three players – Adams (16.4), Larrier (15.2) and Vital (13.8) – are averaging double-figures in the last five games, with two matchups coming against ranked opponents.

UConn is 4-3 all-time against Tulsa, but is 0-3 at the Reynolds Center – dating back to the 2015 season. Last year, the Huskies lost a narrow 61-59 decision in overtime against the Golden Hurricane on Dec. 31, 2016.

SCOUTING TULSA

After suffering through a 15-17 season overall and an 8-10 conference mark last year, Tulsa has jumped to a 9-5 start this season (2-0 American). The main key to the successful start has been senior forward Junior Etou, Tulsa’s leading scorer (17.9) and rebounder (6.9). Etou is shooting .537 overall and .405 from three-point range.

Junior guard Sterling Taplin is also averaging in double figures (11.9) and is the team’s assist leader (3.9). Tulsa is 6-1 at home this season. UConn is 0-2 on the road.
