The Tulsa Golden Hurricane will travel to the H&PE Arena to take on the Houston Cougars this Thursday night in College Basketball action.

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane had their 3-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 10-6 (3-1 AAC) on the season after being defeated by the Memphis Tigers, 76-67, this past Saturday. Tulsa went into halftime with a 33-32 lead, however, struggled a bit on the offensive end in the 2nd half and couldn’t fight back after a 20-3 Memphis run gave the Tigers a 67-58 lead with just 2:33 left in regulation. Tulsa shot 36.2% from the field and 36.0% (9-25) from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Golden Hurricane was Martins Igbanu who had 17 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal. On the season, Tulsa is averaging 75.8 ppg on 44.1% shooting from the field. The Golden Hurricane are averaging 7.8 three-pointers per game on 34.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Tulsa has been led by Junior Etou (17.1 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 1.6 apg), Sterling Taplin (11.9 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 3.9 apg, 1.0 spg), DaQuan Jeffries (10.0 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 1.1 apg, 1.2 bpg), and Martins Igbanu (8.2 ppg, 5.1 rpg). Defensively, Tulsa is allowing their opponents to average 72.1 ppg on 41.7% shooting from the field.

The Houston Cougars had their 4-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 12-3 (2-1 AAC) on the season after being defeated by the 9th ranked Wichita State Shockers, 81-63, this past Thursday night. Houston had no answers for the Wichita State offense in the 1st half and couldn’t fight back after falling behind by a 53-32 margin at halftime. Houston allowed Wichita State to shoot 44.8% from the field and 44.4% (12-27) from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Cougars was Corey Davis Jr. who had 12 points, 2 rebounds, and 5 assists. On the season, Houston is averaging 79.5 ppg on 47.7% shooting from the field. The Cougars are averaging 8.1 ppg on 39.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Houston has been led by Rob Gray (18.6 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 3.3 apg), Devin Davis (11.5 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 1.5 apg), Corey Davis Jr. (11.1 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 2.9 apg), and Wes VanBeck (8.9 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 1.3 apg). Defensively, Houston is holding their opponents to an average of 67.6 ppg on 40.0% shooting from the field. The Cougars have a rebound margin of 8.5 and a turnover margin of 0.4.

The Golden Hurricane are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up loss and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Cougars are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games following a ATS loss and just 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games vs. AAC opponents.

Tulsa has won 6 of their last 8 games and has been solid on both ends of the court this season as the Golden Hurricane rank 148th in scoring offense and 172nd in scoring defense. Houston didn’t put up their best performance against Wichita State, however, the Cougars have been outstanding this season and rank 71st in scoring offense, 73rd in scoring defense, 42nd in defensive FG%, and 16th in rebound margin. Houston is a perfect 7-0 at home this season and as the Golden Hurricane have struggled on the road, I think Houston rebounds from their loss against Wichita State and covers this double-digit spread. Take Houston to cover.
