Game moved up a day from 12/5. This puts and end to the talk of moving Cincinnati to 12/12 and playing at Navy on 12/5.

Between Memphis and Navy and their COVID issues, they should be ineligible to play for a conference championship
The Navy problems have nothing to do with the team (or their recent travel to a majority Republican state as you speculated last week). Despite the most stringent protocols you can imagine on a college campus, non athletics students and personnel exposed some of the players. The contact tracing associated with that has caused the isolations and cancellations. Where that was invented for the dodge of us, I have no idea.

My sense is that if Navy can’t win the conference and may have possible exposures, then they have operational considerations beyond football, except the Army game. They might be done for the year except that game.

I do think if another team cancels on us, we start talking about demanding third pick in the bowl order if we don’t make the conference champ game

8pm on 12-04 is a potential ice bowl
Well covid protocols means there will be few fans there in any event
Bonus Navy is cancelled

Moving the game to the 4th also most likely eliminates potential conflicts with the 6A state championship games on 12/5.

I don't really remember saying it was because they went to a Republican state. Perhaps I mentioned Texas who downplayed things much like Oklahoma for a long time until they couldn't ignore it any longer. Oklahoma's dumb a$$ governor is still ignoring it and preaching personal responsibility, because, you know, it's worked so well for the past 8 months (if you're not in OK, it hasn't).

And I understand Navy has bigger things on their plate than football. But at some point, if you're canceling/bailing on 1/4 of your conference games due to COVID, there's no fair way to compare to the other conference members who have played multiple games. I understand having to ditch 1 game (maybe 2 depending on when in the week you find out and then going with the 10-14 day quarantine, it may impact 2 game weeks). It sucks that TU seems to have figured it out on how to keep players safe and healthy (and maybe we haven't, we're just not hearing about kids in quarantine because its not resulting in game cancellations). I'm willing to give Navy somewhat of a pass if it's isolated to this instance. Memphis though has had several pauses right? That tells me they're not doing something right.

I think it is TV more than your suggestion. It makes a good reason in Oklahoma but I think ESPN and the CFP want this game as the primary game and focus, especially if Cincinnati is still undefeated. If we're still undefeated in the AAC, this game will have a lot of eyes on it. With all of the other conferences playing on 12/5, this is actually a really good thing for the AAC

Sorry, I wasn’t implying that they moved the game due to the prep schedule. I was just noting that fans hoping to attend both events can now do so.

Memphis has played as many games as the rest of the conference. They had some cases after their 1st game with Ark St which caused a pause but it hasn't been a problem since.
