Highly-recruited guard Keshawn Williams commits to Tulsa

Prep Hoops has him ranked at No. 3 in the state of Illinois and his high school teammate Martice Mitchell at No. 5. Mitchell is committed to Minnesota and on 247 is a 4-star top 150 player. (#146)

Williams isn't rated on 247, but by the transitive property of college football recruiting blogs, he should be top 150. lol

I wondered the same thing. Just from the videos, he seems to play more like a 2 than a PG.

Here's some video of his team going up against one of the other top HS programs in Chicago at the moment, Morgan Park. Adam Miller is a SG for Morgan Park, and is #31 in the nation according to 247 with tons of Bluechip offers. Miller ended up with 31 points. Williams led his team (which seemed to have more talent depth) with 22 points in a victory for Bloom.

Williams is #11 and Miller is #44. The tall #2 for Bloom is the kid committed to Minnesota.

In the game it looks like Williams was playing more of a 2 guard role for his HS last year. You see a lot of him taking shots from the wing or finishing the fast break, but you don't see him taking the ball up and his team had issues with breaking the fullcourt trap when Morgan Park fell behind. He's got some good hands on the defensive end but still has room to improve as far as closing out on shooters beyond the arc. (He was matched up with Miller the entire game and Miller started to get hot from 3 pt range)

WIlliams has a nice shot, good athleticism, and he's able to finish around the basket. You don't see him shooting over anyone, but he seems like a good team player and lets the offense come to him without forcing anything. I have no idea what position his AAU coach had him playing at. It seems like he'd be able to defend the PG position better due to his size, but at least in this game he wasn't the facilitating PG for his offense. He was the scoring 2.

Kudos to Haith and staff for the pick up. Could be the best HS recruit we've had a commitment from in his tenure. (Phipps + Hill being others) Hopefully everything works out and we see him on campus.

He has a smooth stroke for sure....Good release off of the pass, and a really silky
pull-up off the dribble....He had five assists per game as a junior, so he is obviously
aware of open teammates, and that would indicate he has the ball in his hands
quite a lot....Maybe a combo, but definitely is the shooter we have been looking for
since we lost Phipps...

He will be, if memory serves, our highest rated Illinois player of the modern era....
And maybe any other....

Who was the lead recruiter on this kid? Shea? One of the new assitants?

I wonder if he will ever take a head coaching gig somewhere in hopes to come back to Tulsa as the HC.
I can't imagine that isn't in his goals for the future. I think he'd take an assistant position somewhere else before he would get offered a HC position. Wouldn't be too shocked to see him interviewing and/or putting his name out there for another assistant job in the next couple of six years. I'm thinking he knows the hesitancy to hire from within at TU after the Phillips situation.

All I know is that in the past year and a half or so, he has been knocking it out of the park. Not sure what is different, but very impressed.

Speaking about Chicago/Illinois basketball, Porter Moser took a chance today on turning his program into Creighton/Wichita St./Gonzaga. I like seeing this. Wish it had been that sort of environment in the college basketball world when Self was here.

Anyone know if Elijah Joiner had any influence on Williams’ recruitment? I’m guessing Williams at least knew of Joiner, so maybe Tulsa had a little more name recognition when we started recruiting him. Chicago pipeline here we come!
