Hello NIT

I still think we get a first round NIT win vs. someone like a Belmont or Evansville, but little chance we get much further. It just seems like with this many seniors we should be better.

The negativity is almost as disappointing as the game. This was a very good season. And a better season than either last year or the CUSA NCAA season. If you don't believe that, take a look at the RPI at year end.

C'mon mcane, let people vent. That's what the board is for. I think nearly all of our posters realize the sun's gonna come up tomorrow.
Actually, the sun is up but no one can see it because it's foggy as hell. Aside from L'il Ricky Tarrant, Jr.(who's going to give the rest of the league pain for 3 more years), chalk this loss up primarily to what's between the earholes. Our seniors saw what happened to Houston & figured a cakewalk to the finals. And, after tough D & a small lead the first 5 minutes, well..........! Even a team shrink couldn't have prepped all these guys who have"seen it all, done it all, played it all". I'm excited about all the new faces for next year(except maybe for some of the same coaches) & if they don't make the tourney, so what-they will before they are all seniors( & probably do better than red meat for UCLA)

Little Ricky Tarrant can't be in the league three more years I don't think. He was one of Ed Conroy's best players three years ago at Tulane and then played at Alabama after transferring. Now has transferred to Memphis to play again. Conroy had worse "tampering" with his good players than we did with McClellan and Clarkson. The game today will be between two coaches, Pastner and Conroy who already had their pink slips in the mail before the tournament started. Pastner is talking to FED-X Executives to see if they can interrupt the delivery.

The last 2 seasons this team actually over achieved. The talent level Manning handed off to Haith was not on par with SMU, CIN, Temple, and UConn yet they contended for the AAC title. Haith's offense requires athletic bigs who can hit turn around jumpers in the paint and finish at the rim. More importantly guards who have range beyond the arc and athletic enough to slash and finish at the rim. This bunch had a combo of those necessary skills, but no single player who possesed all those skills to the table. Teams with quickness and length plagued this bunch, and putting forth more effort was necessary to compensate and overcome the differences.

These Sr's should be applauded for what they achieved, it's just disappointing it was a lack of effort that ended their season, not the usually gap in talent. I'm looking forward to the new class coming in, from all accounts theor ceilings are higher than the outgoing class, and they should fit style of play much better. I am also looking forward to the continued growth of Taplin, T.K., and Birt. It will be very refreshing to have a point guard who forces defenses to respect his perimeter game.
