Thankfully we do not play until Tuesday. I can actually enjoy a holiday weekend. Shout out to the Presidents for Presidents Day!
So since we can all agree that our chances at an at large are pretty much toast, I think we can start focusing on seeding.
Currently we are the 6 seed and with UCONN departing (Thank God) we should have 3 bye spots. Now the question is do we really want the bye spot or do we want to play in the first round. Personally I still think we should play for the last bye spot as winning 3 games and losing the championship still probably wont get us in the tourney. So we should shorten our games as much as possible.
We have three teams in our way of that 3 seed. Memphis (we own the tie breaker), SMU (They have the tie breaker) and Cincinnati (We own the tie breaker). We play both SMU and Cincinnati left in our last 5 games. It looks like the Tulane game in New Orleans will not happen.
All four of us are within 3 games of each other. Now when you look at the conference records, we all havent played the same number of games. If more games are cancelled for the other three teams that could work in our favor if we can find a way to win. The SMU and Cincinnati games are crucial. Memphis going on a losing streak is a must as well. I have several questions that I am not sure I or anyone else has answers for.
1. What is the COVID protocol for the conference Tourney?
2. Are teams going to be dropped if they have positives?
3. Are they going to reseed the tourney if they do?
4. What is the time line for that decision?
5. How is covid going to affect the teams that are invited to the NCAA tournament?
So there is still a lot left up in the air concerning seeding for the Conference Tournament and the NCAA Tournament as I see it.
There are a lot of games scheudled for today. There are no AAC games today.
Tulsa was supposed to play SMU at home today but that was moved to February 3 as we already know.
East Carolina and Temple were supposed to play 2 games in 3 days in Philly and Greenville (not that far of a drive really), but those have been postponed due to ECU pausing their team due to COVID.
Tulane at South Florida has been rescheduled for tomorrow in Tampa
