Cincinnati opened their newly renovated arena with a thud. 64-56 loss to Ohio State.

Trailed almost the entire game to a short handed Ohio St squad. Cincy played their usual good D but really had issues putting the ball in the bucket.

Cumberland just isn't very efficient so they have to hope someone else is hitting to help carry then through when he isn't. Seems they are a scorer short of being a really good team. Still will probably be NCAA tourney good.

Wichita went for the old RPI strategy playing the best team in a weak conference and it backfired.

They will take a while to sort it out. Ton of new people and Teddy Allen is waiting on a waiver.

WSU's top three scorers were freshman. The Shocks upperclassmen leaders were not effective. With their schedule it could be a long year in Wichita.

I’m not sure how much if any weight the committee places on the RPI but I fear our schedule isn’t very RPI friendly this year.

Wichita St is going to have to win ugly this year ( the ones they win that is). Tough D and pound the boards. They will be better in February than they are now but I agree that their preseason ranking looks about right.

They also don’t have the same front court size or a Gary Clark (didn’t he play for like 8 years?) to clean up the glass like they have often had in the past.

True, Brooks is nice but he fouled out on the refs make up call. Pretty sure after the Ohio St guard scored that last lay up on Scott Cronin was in Brooks ear about how him fouling out cost them. Tough first game, still would prefer to not get in a rock fight with them....but when you play Cincy you better bring your rocks.

And 2x4s with nails

Obviously RPI (or whatever they call it now) means nothing at this stage, most services just start a team where they ended last year until it all comes together. Under that system, Tulsa dropped by beating Alcorn St. Watching early season formulas struggle is almost as fun as watching voters refuse to adjust preseason polls.

From our schedule:

Nevada > BYU
Dayton > N. Florida
ORU < Missouri State
USF > Alabama A&M
Ciny < an Ohio State
UCF > Rider
Memphis > Tennessee Tech
WSU < La tech
Temple > La Salle
ECU > Delaware State (not the blue hens)
Lamar beat Hutson-Tilletson Rams. (sorry, had to)

A couple more data points on Nevada, they lost their first exhibition to Washington State and won their second against San Francisco State.
