I AM BAAAAACK!! I know you missed me. Its ok to admit it. Lol
First and foremost I want to say that Virginia handled this Snowstorm very poorly. I also am looking into a house generator as this was 36 hours of garbage.
Back to basketball!
Last night I believe we could have won the game in Memphis. We can debate back and forth on the reasons for it. Some blame the coach, but the players have to execute bottom line. Personally we lost to SMU because of three things. 1. We needed Haywood in that game. 2. The shot clock violation changed the game. 3. Our shot selection in the last 2 minutes was atrocious and that is on Horne and Griffin specifically. Last night, we could have pinned that loss to the charge that Haywood committed at the end that could have got us the lead off that three late in the game. I say that clock management in the last minute of the game when Memphis wasn’t shooting free throws well put us in a bigger bind. We could also pin it on por shooting through the middle of the game to where we dug ourselves a huge whole.
That said, I love the fight in the guys. I think at the end of the season it will serve them well. I believe it showed also in the NET rankings where we were the big mover yesterday.
Yesterday, Colorado State beat Air Force 67-59. That makes me hopeful with Air Force going forward as that game was played at Colorado State.
Boise at Utah State was postponed due to COVID with Boise State.
We have 4 games that will be played and 2 postponements due to COVID.
Southern Illinois and Drake have rescheduled their game for January 17th due to COVID within Southern Illinois.
Rhode Island and George Mason (This would have been a GREAT game) postponed due to COVID at George Mason.
AND 1
I am putting the women in the And 1 today. They finally get to play a game after that loss they took and then the OSU game being cancelled and then their Conference opener with Cincinnati being postponed. Tulsa (88 NET) travels to Memphis (107 NET) to take on the tigers. Hopefully the women get back on the winning side of the season. Tulsa is fourth in the net rankings for the women. The leaders in the conference are UCF (31 NET), USF (37 NET) and Houston (72 NET) these teams have multiple losses that Tulsa doesn’t have the difference is these teams have played better teams than Tulsa has played. I hope the women come on strong and make noise in Conference play.
