Game thoughts Wichita State

Maybe TU will get red hot from 3 to win one more game.

Unfortunately, it will be a challenge with teams implementing smothering D on the perimeter.

A 1 win conference finish will be tough to reconcile. At this point, NIL is everything. Hopefully, Konkol will be happier this off-season than he was last year.

You could the difference in the talent level starting with the tip-off.

Konkal is going to need at least 8 new players for next season to start catching up with the rest of the league.

If Pritchard comes back quickly I expect 1 or 2 more wins. Probably 2 of 3 at home.

Konkol used the phrase "retool with Anthony being out" suggesting it will go beyond today.

It’s easy to reconcile with what Haith left us

If you include the 3 we already signed I agree. By the way, I heard 2 of those guys were in the house tonight. Hopefully they saw how early they will get to play.

If Pritchard is gone, then I can see 5 add ons to the three we already have. Griffin might be the only hold over from Haith next year.

No one cares what you think bro, honestly.
Lighten up Bro. Gold* is one of the mainstays on this board and has been for years. We're all upset and frustrated. The four minute flurry at the end was encouraging but hardly enough to offset the 36 minutes of caca play.

I don't know what the situation is with Pritchard. They didn't say if he was hurt, broke a team rule or what. Guess we'll find out.

There is casual Friday. Taco Tuesday. TU's theme was No Defense Sunday.

I'm glad they didn't just quit at the end. I'm glad that Knight and McWright are getting more PT. I hope the Tim Dalger we saw in the second half becomes his normal output.

I know who gold is. Everyone needs to chill out and wait for next year. It will be MUCH better.

I think everyone knows (hopes) next year will be much better. But, I think in the meantime, we would like to see a game to game improvement rather than what appears to be merely playing the same songs while the Titanic goes down.

I think Pritchard is sick or had a COVID exposure.

Rome wasn’t built in a day.

It took years for Frank Haith to drive the program to lower levels and it will take time to rebuild it.

I agree that haith had to go after last season but you guys seem to continue to forget that if COVID had not shut down the 2019-2020 season that we might have taken that team to the tournament with a Haith squad. Y’all continue to bash the man instead of holding the players responsible for their efforts. They still have to execute.

No these players ARE d1 talent. We have no size to contend in the paint and our FT percent is in the toilet. This team is working with a new scheme and new coaches. They need to find heart. They are getting a degree from a great institution for playing basketball. They need to find it in themselves.

Haith has been gone almost a year give it a rest. So exhausting

I feel that many here were expecting results similar to that of someone like Kragthorpe, who inherited a mess and turned it around right away.

It doesn’t always work that quickly.

Your points are good except the 2019-2020 team was not going to the tournament. We lost that year to UT Arlington, Arkansas State at home, lost to Cincy by 31 , Houston by 33 and WSU the last game by over 20 and we would have had to beat them all. About 100-1 odds. Not going to bash Haith. His teams were good enough to keep getting him "Gragg extensions" every couple of years . I do wish for more that that though.

I disagree that we had no chance. We had 1 more win than the 2015-2016 team that went to dayton and almost beat Michigan. That year we lost in the first game to Memphis in the AAC tourney and we had losses to Little Rock and ORU at home and getting blasted by SMU and Houston as well. I firmly believe that if that 19-20 team had gotten to the finals they would have got an invitation. They wouldnt have had to win the tourney.

Haith absolutely has some blame in all of this. Even though it’s been close to a year, we’re still bridled with the decisions he made over the previous 2 years.

And that is also why I am heistant on Football as well. Konkol said all the right things but this is just what it is, rebuilding. Wilson is also saying the right things but is this going to be rebuilding again. I agree Rome wasnt built in a day but I think people need to have more realistic expectations. If they play better than that then great, but when people are acting like we should win the conference and we dont the let down will be greater.

With all that being said, I do expect the new football coach to come in and win more than 5 games. I also expected the basketball coach to win more than 5 games as well.

They absolutely would have needed to win the tournament lol. They were #94 in the RPI. They were 25 spots lower in Kenpom than the 2015-16 team. I can't find the 2020 NET rankings, but I don't believe they had the Q1-Q2 record that the 2015-16 team had.

All that said, I don't think there was anything that would have led us to believe we could have even gone very far in the conference tournament. We had lost handily to most of the good teams in the conference by that point. Cincy beat us by 31. Houston beat us by 33. Wichita barely split with us (Joiner's buzzer beater) and beat us by 22 at their place.

Literally the only thing we could hang our hat on was the drubbing of Memphis at home. In 2015-16 we were statistically a better team and BARELY made it in.... to the point that no one thought we would make it in and no media, prognosticators, or Tulsa fans had us getting selected after we lost in the tourney to Memphis.
