We went a miserable 4-4 yesterday and I am sure we would all like to forget it happened. But hey, on to the next game.

Today is the 244th Marine Corps Birthday! Why did I include it? Well I am and will always be a Marine and it is one of the most special and difficult things I have done in my life. I spent over 9 years in the Marines and then a little over 7 in the army before they medically retired me. Why am I putting this on here? Through my 5 deployments and a year in korea, the one thing I always followed was TU Athletics. I live in Virginia and work in DC for the Federal Government and always pull for TU. I am in Annapolis for the football games. I am one of like 12 of us that show up lol. I go to Greenville to watch TU play ECU.

Call it what you want but I will spend my money to watch this team win or lose. My wife has told me plenty of times to pick a local team and I told her to sit on an egg. I used other words but I will go with those for now. We all have issues with the team, the staff, etc. There is always those of us that pull for the team no matter what.

Always True

Semper Fi...happy birthday to the Marines

“The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. Thank God for the United States Marine Corps!” ~Eleanor Roosevelt

"Why in hell can't the Army do it if the Marines can. They are the same kind of men; why can't they be like Marines." ~ Gen. John J. "Black Jack" Pershing, USA; 12 February 1918

this team is very talented. That was a dumb game to have scheduled. The upcoming schedule is going to allow us to build momentum and chemistry.

Scheduling it that early I will agree with you. We do need to beef up our OOC lineup, young team or not. I have faith that they will figue it out. I just hope this goes down as a good loss. lol. We will see later on.

it will 100% go down as a good loss. We just can’t lose to any of the other games we have at home in the non con.

You know, there is something I have never understood on here. When we shoot miserably or play poor defense in the early games, it is always about finding the right lineups, platoon substitution, not going on a foreign preseason tour.... any number of excuses. Now we are hearing that we should not have scheduled a tournament team so early in the season.

What I don’t understand is, it is an early season game for the other team as well. Why is it that they can have red hot shooters and play strong defense and we can’t?

We should not have scheduled that on the road. At home teams always play better.

Houston Baptist shot extremely well the first half against us, and they were playing on the road. Maybe we shouldn’t schedule home games in the early season as well.

Love the post. It is a bit rough being a TU fan at the moment, with football being what it is and basketball not where we all loved it in the late 90s.

Nevertheless, I wouldn’t trade rooting on TU for anything. I love the school and the character of the kids we recruit.

UTA went 17-16 last season. Why are they considered a likely tourney team exactly? I know they were picked to finish 2nd this year in the sun belt, but again, that wouldn't be a tourney team necessarily

I can’t fault the loss on mass substitution like it has caused in the past. Just poor shooters and lack of energy. No excuse for the latter. Shooting is a recruiting thing. We had a good one in Phipps but he slipped away. Haywood , KES, and Gendron can shoot but are in street clothes.

slipped away? Interesting way if putting it. Our shooting will improve. We looked like a team trying to find its identity. That’ll improve.

Phipps was a 2020 kid anyway. Wouldn’t have helped us at all this season. Haith, per usual, neglects to absolutely sure up key roster needs in the offseason.

I would like to say you are right about the shooting improving from the first of the year to the end but unfortunately Haith's teams have a tendency to shoot worse as the year goes along. The past two years we have shot better in the early games versus the later games in the year. 48.5% early season vs 45 % in the later part of the season.

Guys like Horne aren't going to shoot 20% for the season, so I think we'll probably improve. Still, if you're Haith and you know that outside shooting isn't going to be this team's strength, why are you letting them take 22 in a game?

Maybe, but it's hard to see right now. Jones showed he could fill it up on Saturday, but no one else could. We may have 4-5 guys capable of going for 20 any given night, problem is we rarely see more than 1 or 2 ever get into double figures and even rarer for more than 1 guy to get hot from outside. I don't think this team is any different. There may be a ton of talent, but under Haith the last 5 years, the pool of talent he has put together rarely ever shows up in the same game. I can't explain it. We may have some kids who can shoot...but why do we struggle so much from outside to start a season and you don't see it from other teams?

Exactly. Especially when it seems like we have a bunch of guys capable of getting to the rim.
