It was amazing hearing Dawkins still yelling at his team so long after the game. We could hear him yelling in the press room, since the press room shares the wall with the opposing team's locker room, and the wall is a little thin. Dawkins was just going on and on.
My section did its best. I was a complete jerk yesterday. That crew was awful and I let them know it. Even after we had it wrapped up I was on them. This league has to get the officiating under control. They charged us too much to join for this lack of quality and oversight.
The downside: someone stole my sunglasses. I think it was one of the dumpster divers who picks up ticket stubs after the game.
Some terrible, terrible calls on so-called fouls on Wheeler and Etou and no calls on going over the back of Magnay and Edogi. The officials were totally incompetent. I'm not saying they were trying to help us lose, but how can you officiate like that? I've seen better high school officials.
The spikey hair ref has always been bad. The one that looked like Michael Flynn was better in second half than first; in first, he tried to make every call. The African American ref was watching a different game than we were.
I thought the offensive foul call on Wheeler in first half was very bad, as were every offensive foul called on Etou. The three point foul on Birt was a no call. Most of Igbanu's calls were bad; Haith told him his third foul didn't happen in is book.
Similarly, the three point foul where Henderson got to shoot was a bad call. I thought a couple on Fall were bad, too, but as Omar would say on the Wire, he fouled enough other people to earn those. (My dad added that with Fall, it's not so much going over the back as it is going over the head.)
Unlike some others, these officials didn't react at all. I think they know they are bad.
For whatever reason, UH only has low point beer at basketball games.
