This kind of surprised me. I imagine the fact that Texas is joining the SEC in 2023 was a big influence. I was expecting Georgia or Tulsa. Lol.

  • New Orleans (La.) Isidore Newman five-star quarterback Arch Manning has committed to Texas. The Top247’s No. 1 recruit also strongly considered Alabama and Georgia.

“This all unfolded authentically and organically,” Isidore Newman head coach Nelson Stewart told 247Sports. “He’s a super special kid and I’m confident in his decision.

“I’m excited he can smile and have a great senior year. It’s certainly been a journey unlike any other.”

The 6-foot-4, 218-pound Manning took four visits each of his finalists including his official to Austin over the weekend. Manning was the only signal-caller that Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian and quarterbacks coach AJ Milwee pursued in the cycle.

“From the beginning of their recruitment. from the first Zoom he had with Sark, it was a real connection between the two,” Stewart said. “I think the authenticity, getting to know him and the extension of [quarterbacks coach] A.J. Milwee.”

The Texas Longhorns have a history when it comes to landing commitments from No. 1 overall quarterbacks: 2002's top prospect Vince Young committed to Texas, eventually winning a national championship. In the summer of 2020, then-No. 1 2022 prospect Quinn Ewers committed to Texas before eventually decommitting six weeks later, reclassifying, enrolling at Ohio State and, of course, transferring to Texas.
