And apparently Derrick Gragg. Embery's waiver is denied as is the appeal.
While Houston gets Grimes, a bunch of Embery's teammates were approved, etc...

They still haven't ruled on Haywood yet. That's really lame that they get two denials in on Embery and haven't ruled on Haywood.I’ve heard some very strong confirmations that Arkansas screwed us over here in how we were allowed to file this. But, I think we will be getting a waiver on the Gtech kid. Also, KES is hurt from an injury Arkansas very poorly mismanaged and likely woulda been out until January.
Arkansas had a hand in it but Gragg is INCOMPETENT!! How does this guy keep his job?
There are at least 2 other players who left Arkansas last year that have been granted waivers for this year. It's BS. We need to get Jay Bilas on this. He already despises the NCAA for his perception that they mistreat athletes and don't truly have the athletes best interests at the forefront instead of just protecting the amount of $ they take in.The NCAA specifically does not like Haith.
If Arkansas fought the waiver, I expect all the social justice collegiate sports warrior journalists to chime in like they did on Clarkson, Austin Kendall, and so on. If other players are eligible elsewhere from the same team, this is actual crap.
Then how did the other 2 Arkansas players get their waivers? Ibrahim Ali transferred to Tulane and is immediately eligible. He is from Nigeria so the "closer to home" defense doesn't really work. Jordan Phillips also transferred and was granted immediate eligibility at UT-Arlington. He is from Arlington, TX so it makes sense if he used the "closer to home" reason on his waiver. We filed for the waiver under the "run off" exception. Arkansas was contacted and contested our assertion that KES was "run off".
The really crap thing is that Embery basically already took a redshirt year by going to Prep school.
No he was a senior in Oklahoma from what I remember. Those rules are weird. He did his senior year of high school at prep school, right? That’s different. A lot of those programs have two different teams.

Sorry Gold, after review. I’m wrong your correct
It's still an arbitrary ruling IMO. I don't agree with Bilas or Rod Gilmore on a lot of things with regards to how they seemingly want to let players essentially be professionals, but a free transfer after your FR year or after you graduate on time are 2 things I do think make sense. The NCAA doesn't have a "free transfer" rule in place but they've treated 1st yr FR that way in football and basketball recently (I still don't get how Justin Fields gets a waiver at Ohio State). #FreeKESI have no idea. Ali did't play last year. Phillips played in only 7 games and averaged less than 2ppg. I could see where Arkansas had no issues losing either one of those players. I take the fact that Arkansas cared enough to fight the waiver on KES a good sign. It's not like KES is ready to play and contribute to the team. This sucks but it's not the worst thing for TU basketball going forward.
The NCAA has done a 180 w/ regards to waivers for transfers ever since the Baker Mayfield fiasco and his departure from Tech. Hell, Mayfield almost had to sit out a season AND lose a season of eligibility because of the Big XII rule regarding transfers in conference and not being released by his former university. Tech was extremely bitter about the whole thing and would not grant him a release and despite being appealed to 2 non-athletic committees at Tech, the university still did not budge...yet they did not see fit to give him a scholarship either (knowing they had Davis Webb on campus and Mahomes coming in for 2014). Mayfield only got to play 3 seasons at OU because of a rule change by the Big XII after he got to OU that was subsequently applied to his situation. That was a super high profile case...and the funny thing is no one really knew much of Mayfield or if he could really play a full season at that level. he only played a few games @ Tech because he got hurt. And Mayfield's real reason for transferring- he didn't think he should have to compete for the starting job lost only because he got injured (and he only got because the guy in front of him got hurt). But after the Mayfield fiasco and the negative publicity and backlash the NCAA got, they have been a lot quicker to approve waivers for virtually any reason.Whether or not the last school wants the transfer or not shouldn’t be an issue based on what we’ve seen recently in terms of NCAA legal issues due to player empowerment.
It's really not arbitrary and capricious. There is a reason. It's just a reason that the NCAA doesn't want to admit on the record (because it will kill them in court). They are protecting the member institutions at the cost of the player's desires. The issue is they do this for big name programs that drive ratings. But when it’s us, they crap on everything every time. Burnham, for example. The worrisome part here is they actually approved other players playing immediately who ask transferred from the same damn team.
That is the definition of arbitrary and capricious.

Was that the first or second waiver application? We filed for the waiver under the "run off" exception. Arkansas was contacted and contested our assertion that KES was "run off".
I've heard it's likely that Haywood gets the waiver fwiw.
You can blame Arkansas all you want but the bottom line is that the athletic admin and staff are not capable of doing the work necessary. When is it time for our trustees to realize Gragg is horrible at his job?
He will redshirt. Will Embrey lose a year of eligibility now or does he have a redshirt year he can use
Let's refuse to play Ark this season and take a buyout. If Ark was behind this, Haith has some explaining to do - having inked a 3 game series in football.
