Nothing is sacred anymore. I have a little more insight into this one than I will say here, but I have to hope people will get behind this institution.

That decides where I'm going to lunch today. Definitely wouldn't be the same downtown.

I also hate that it moved. Downtown hasn’t been the same since it went to Brady. It belongs with us working stiffs in old buildings, not vegans and artists who don’t pay taxes.
I like the new spot and am FAR from vegan, artistic or tax free.

But it is a big space. Maybe too big? That can be costly both in rent and utilities.

I just can’t imagine the move resulted in increased revenue. The old spots were oddly brilliant and had to be very cheap. Kids going to concerts aren’t buying coneys before.

My comment was more about the neighbors and a dig at AHHA.

Ahha!

I get it now.

Sacred ground = Burial Site

I'm sorry, but I think Coney Island is 'OK'. I know, I know, I'm a blasphemer!

I'll go maybe twice a year, when I'm in a funny mood. But the chili doesn't taste much different than Hormel out of a can. For reasons of nostalgia I don't want them to leave, but it ain't over their cuisine.

Yes. I think they started as one business and then branches of the family took on separate parts many decades ago.
For whatever reason I think it is a Greek family. My late mother in law was from the Greek community and knew some of those folks way back. Her dad owned a candy store downtown.

I'm in the same boat. I actually hate their chili. It's closer to gross than just ok. I like their buns and cheese though. Overall I might eat it once a year.

Is this only the downtown location or are the others in trouble as well. These places are sacred.
The problem is the inflation of the real estate values in the downtown area. A lot of the places that were on Main St or in the old locations downtown when nothing was there, were absolute go to spots for anyone who worked downtown. Coney Island, the sandwich shop (can't remember the name), and some others did just fine. Then the BOK came and more restaurants trying to grab that crowd, then ONEOk and more restaurants and then downtown was hip and cool as a place to go eat and hang out. Well, more options means people are eating at all these other places and the old school places may still be doing an OK volume of business but not what they were doing, and now their rents are going up to keep pace with everything around it. But I bet the landlords don't realize that no one is coming into these old school places when the old businesses are run out b/c of their pricing. The revitalization of the downtown areas of a lot of places is really cool but it comes at an expense. One of my favorite Mexican places in BA was Fiesta Mambo. It's gone now b/c their rent got raised in the Rose District and more restaurants came in causing their volume to drop some. Those types of things suck and I'm not sure what can be done less than the city saying tenants who existed prior to x-year can't have their rent raised.

Those are a lot of words that don’t say much. Coney Island moved way after the BOK center opened. One has nothing to do with the other. Sometimes you need to simplify this stuff, man

For those of us who were at TU decades ago, the Coney I Lander on 11th street (in the location that was originally Minnie Pearl’s Chicken) was the closest coney place. Probably the cheapest as well. Not necessarily the best.

It's still there. I stop in for coneys there once or twice a year.

My son loves it. He especially loves the one in Jenks that has a massive aquarium.

Never EVER set foot in the one in Oklahoma City. It is god awful.

The Economou family. Tony (the son) and I actually did our pre-med classes at the same time at TU. He is a glaucoma specialist in town. And yes, active with stuff like the Greek Festival every year. Is that still being held?

My favorite location is still 11th St. We go before almost every BB game. It's not that the chili is superb (it would likely not be that great eaten by itself), it is that the coneys are better than the sum of their parts. The soft steamed buns, the fluffy cheese, the lightly grilled wieners.....getting close to food porn here. Lol

Yes the Greek fest is still a thing. It was still going strong when I went last, but that was in 2019. I assume that it is still vibrant even though I wasn't there for three years. 😜

I think you misspelled soggy buns, disgusting sauce they call chili, grade d beef dogs.....I cant argue about the cheese. The cheese is amazing!

Greek festival is still going. My daughter danced this year (as some of you know, my wife is Greek) and we leveraged that into a photo opp for Judge Gray.
