If private insurance companies are going bankrupt because of the last storm, a bailout to meet those claims doesn’t fund their ability to meet claims from future storms. The alternatives are for private companies to exit or raise premiums by multiples or for the government to use taxpayer money to offer public insurance. Either way the costs of ignoring climate change are going to drive cost of living increases in fragile areas eventually forcing people to move to less expensive areas.
