So I am listening to the Buzz and Kelly Hines is talking about Annie Hogan who is the new TU Athletic Dept. nutritionist but works with football the most. Right now they are talking about how TU players have transformed their bodies and combined the strength and conditioning training of Adam Davis along with better nutrition and that this years team is in much better shape as a group. I saw several tweets about her as well today. She follows the players around the cafeteria and tells them they need more vegetables! (I find that part hysterical). I guess this has been a growing trend in athletic depts. and TU has finally jumped on board and was one of the "must haves" for Coach Montgomery. Hogan previously worked at Baylor in the same capacity. I always though Keevan Lucas was pretty chiseled already, but Poplin and Hines are saying he is even more so this year; Garrett has put on some good muscle weight, and Michael Mudoh chiseled 20lbs off and transformed more weight into muscle. Looking forward to seeing the "physical" part of the "fun, fast, and physical football" next week! #GoTU

We've had a nutrition component for awhile.

I am just going off of what I heard. I am not sure the previous nutrition component was this individualized nor as involved as the current commitment.

Thanks for posting this Brandon, I just read Kelly's article in the world about it, the players say they have never had anything like this before and Monty says you can't put a price tag on her worth to the athletic dept.

I was under the impression it fell under the realm of the strength and conditioning personnel before, most (all?) of whom aren't really qualified nutritionists.

Nice article and its good to see people behind the scenes get recognition. However, it is worth pointing out she wouldn't have had a job five or ten years ago. The quality of the food in the cafs is so much better now, it actually makes sense to have a nutritionist. When your menu choices are reheated frozen enchiladas or all you can eat ice cream, there's no reason to give her a paycheck. Hats off to the people that really made the team gains possible ... the trustees and donors who have made better nutrition a priority for ALL of the students.

It's hysterical to remember how big a deal "Salisbury Steak Night" was at the Twin Caf. Myself, I'd just get in the sammech line b/c I wanted to hear that lady ask me one more time ... "Wa kine chee yoo wan on dat?"

Junkie, I think you're right on that and I think the focus was on workout recovery nutrition. I wonder if every player is still getting a carton of milk when they leave the practice field?

I can't speak for the Blankenship era, but during TG, Coach Griswold was pretty aggressive as far as nutrition counseling, etc. I can't remember what his nutrition background was, but I know he had a couple of advanced degrees. Now what he told them to eat and what was available on campus are two different things. The guys living off campus on the stipend ate pretty well, I know that for a fact.

Huffy, the on campus options have become a ton better than back in the day. There are several dining options in ACAC now beyond the Hut and the other place and the food quality in the cafeteria has improved a lot since they sunk a couple million into a complete renovation.

Griswold's degrees are in exercise science according to his bio.

It's kind of like a personal trainer giving nutrition advice. They might be somewhere in the ballpark but that's really not their expertise.

Do you even read these threads?. You are repeating back what I posted before as if I wasn't aware of that.

Haha I loved it... You want some cheeee????

Sadly, after they re-did the caf I have no idea what happened. Probably one of the nicest, most memorable ladies on campus. Hope she's doing well wherever she is.
