Ok, so on vacation in Hawaii and the Aloha Bowl is a stone's throw away from Pearl Harbor. Never knew that. It's also a ways away from UH campus. The place is a dump too. There's also a regular flea market held in the parking lot 3 days a week. Ugh.

We were there last week. If you get a chance, try Teddy's Bigger Burgers just past the Duke statue on Waikiki. You won't be disappointed.

Also, the volcano is erupting on the Big Island. Most impressive thing we visited on our trip.

We stuck to Oahu...it's my in-laws 50th anniversary and they wanted the family to take a trip. We went to Duke's for dinner one night right in Waikiki- great place. We did the normal touristy things Pearl Harbor, Polynesian Cultural Center, snorkeled in Hanauma Bay and toured the Kualoa Ranch. We also visited the Punchbowl to honor my son's scoutmaster's father who was KIA in the Pacific Theater during WWII weeks before he was born. He never met his dad. My son made a rubbing of his name on the memorial to present to him. My son is just now reaching that age where he can appreciate that type of sacrifice even though he is 3 generations removed from that era.

Being a student at UH may sound like a fun thing to kids on the mainland, but that part of Honolulu is a pit and trying to fight the daily traffic into Waikiki is a mess. The saving grace for Honolulu seems to be a pretty good public transit system in the form of buses.
