Around the League:
∙ Three American teams – No. 18 SMU, No. 23 Cincinnati and No. 25 UConn – are ranked in the latest AP poll released on Monday. Houston is receiving votes in the same poll. The Bearcats come in at No. 20 in the USA Today Coaches Poll released Monday.
∙ Tulane returns to action after a nine day break hosting Prairie View A&M at Devlin Fieldhouse on Monday. The Green Wave dropped a 76-68 contest to Georgia Tech in its last time out on Dec. 5. Tulane has out-rebounded their opponent in seven of their first eight games and are led by Dylan Osetkowski’s 9.4 rebounds per game. Louis Dabney and Malik Morgan lead the team in scoring with 13.0 and 10.9 points per game, respectively.
∙ B.J. Tyson scored 21 points and Charles Foster had 11 of his 13 in the second half to lead East Carolina to a 71-60 win over North Carolina A&T Sunday afternoon at Minges Coliseum. The win extended the Pirates’ homecourt winning streak over non-conference opponent to 10 games. Freshman Kentrell Barkley added 11 points off the Pirates’ bench, which outscored the Aggies’ reserves 30-18.
∙ Rob Gray, Jr. scored 11 of his career-high 31 points in overtime to lead Houston to a 105-98 victory over NR/RV LSU Sunday evening at Hofheinz Pavilion. Gray was 10-of-19 from the field. Danrad Knowles had 20 points, and Damyean Dotson added 13 points and 10 rebounds. The Cougars opened overtime with a 10-2 spurt, capped by a Galen Robinson, Jr., jumper.
∙ Senior guard James Woodard led Tulsa with 20 points as the Golden Hurricane topped Missouri State, 70-61, on the road on Sunday. Rashad Smith scored 12 points while Shaquille Harrison chipped in 11. Tulsa limited Missouri State to 32-percent shooting from the field (20-of-63) and 18-percent (3-of-17) from 3-point range.
